JD Cymru Leagues round-up | Cardiff Met end Newtown’s winning streak

Cardiff Met struck a 91st-minute winner to beat Newtown 2-1 at Cyncoed Campus and end the Robins’ seven-game winning streak in the JD Cymru Premier in the process.

Following a goalless first half, close-range finishes from Matt Chubb and Aaron Williams cancelled each other out early in the second period. It was then Harry Owen who provided the stoppage time winner for Met as his shot on the turn beat Andy Wycherley.

Penybont suffered a third straight league defeat as Haverfordwest County triumphed 3-2 over Rhys Griffiths’ side at Ogi Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds led 3-0 after 44 minutes, with a stunning long-range strike from Rhys Abbruzzese the pick of the bunch in between goals for Jack Wilson and Martell Taylor-Crossdale.

Jonathan Brown pulled one back for Bont in first half stoppage time before Lewis Harling reduced the deficit further just after the hour mark, but the visitors were unable to complete a comeback.

Barry Town United won only a second league game of the season and kept a first clean sheet of the campaign in a 2-0 victory against Pontypridd United at Jenner Park.

Newport County loanee Harrison Bright finished off a delightful team move to open the scoring in the 15thminute, before Town were given the chance to double the lead after half an hour when Jarrad Wright was penalised for handball in the box.

Kayne Mclaggon stepped up to take the resulting penalty on his 200th appearance for the club, but saw it saved by former Barry goalkeeper George Ratcliffe before he was able to turn the ball home on the rebound.

Caernarfon Town returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Aberystwyth Town at The Oval.

All of the goals came in the second half, with Zack Clarke scoring a penalty, Adam Davies finishing from close range and substitute Louis Lloyd wrapping up the result late on.

Connah’s Quay Nomads and Bala Town had to settle for a point each in a 1-1 draw in the pouring rain at the Essity Stadium in the only game on Wednesday night.

Lakesiders forward Osebi Abadaki followed up his goal in the JD Welsh Cup with another to open the scoring after 14 minutes, before Jack Kenny provided the equaliser for the Nomads just before the hour mark. Kai Edwards and Joe Malkin were both sent off following an incident at the full-time whistle.

In the JD Cymru North, Airbus UK Broughton triumphed 4-0 away at Prestatyn Town on Tuesday night to go second in the table.

Goals from Oli Lanceley and James Davies put the Wingmakers in control in the first half, before George Peers came off the bench to score twice in the space of three minutes in the second period.
