JD Cymru North round-up | Brookwell brace helps Porthmadog claim first league win since October

Porthmadog picked up their first victory in the JD Cymru North since October as Danny Brookwell’s brace earned a 2-1 win at Caersws on Saturday.

A costly defensive mistake allowed Brookwell to find the breakthrough in the third minute of first half stoppage time, and the Port striker grabbed his second of the afternoon just before the hour mark against the run of play.

Rhys Hesden quickly responded and halved the deficit for Caersws, but despite mass amounts of pressure in the latter stages of the match, Port held on to triumph.

Despite their win, Steve Williams’ side remain three points adrift of safety in the relegation zone as 13th-place Prestatyn Town also recorded a victory – defeating bottom side Chirk AAA 3-0.

All the goals came in the final 15 minutes of the first half as Seasiders midfielder Luke Wiltshire scored his second league goal of the season before captain Tom Kemp doubled the advantage.

Striker Tyler Joyce rounded off an impressive first half from the Seasiders by adding a third with a composed finish beyond young goalkeeper Jack Edwards.

Ruthin Town survived a late scare to claim a thrilling 5-4 victory over Llandudno at the Memorial Playing Fields on Friday night.

The drama began just three minutes into the match as Tom Dyer’s penalty was saved by Michael Jones, but from the rebound, another penalty was awarded and Jake Hughes-Hampson stepped up to the plate to roll home the opener from twelve yards.

Jason Clark and Ethan Davies added a second and a third as the hosts opened up a three-goal cushion inside 20 minutes. Hughes-Hampson proved to be the dead ball specialist again in the 39th minute as he fired home a sublime free-kick for Ruthin’s fourth.

Llandudno gave themselves a glimmer of hope before the break with two calm finishes from Fabrizio Murtas and Danny Holland, but substitute Charlie Williams was on hand to make it five for Ruthin midway through the second half.

Jordan Hadaway’s side found the net twice in stoppage time through Karl Clair and Billy Nicholas, but the damage was already done as Ruthin held on for all three points to move up to seventh place.

Mold Alexandra grabbed a fourth consecutive away win in the JD Cymru North after coming from behind to defeat Llanidloes Town 5-1 at Victoria Park.

Daffs striker Connor Bird had his penalty saved in the 15th minute, but he was on hand to convert the rebound and give Llanidloes a shock lead. However, Mold produced the perfect response to edge ahead at the break thanks to goals from Steve Watkins and Sam Duffy.

Duffy completed his brace in the 50th minute before 37-year old centre back Dafydd Griffith stunned Victoria Park by finding the net with a spectacular overhead back to make it four.

Star striker Danny Warren then scored his 15th league goal of the season to round off another terrific performance from Steve Monk’s side as they remain in fourth place.
