JD Cymru North round-up | Leaders Airbus UK Broughton strike twice in stoppage time to earn draw

JD Cymru North leaders Airbus UK Broughton staged a dramatic late comeback to salvage a 3-3 draw away to Caersws on Saturday.

The Wingmakers were stunned inside the first 20 minutes as Craig Harris and Neil Mitchell put the home side two goals to the good. George Peers grabbed a goal back for Airbus shortly after the half hour mark, but Rhys Hesden restored the Bluebirds’ two-goal cushion at the start of the second half.

However, in the true sign and fight of title challengers, Mark Allen’s side earned a point in remarkable fashion as stoppage time strikes from teenagers Brad Knight and Sam Baker drew them level.

With Airbus dropping points, Flint Town United missed the chance to go top of the table as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Guilsfield.

Jamie Hyne’s delightful chip put Guilsfield a goal to the good at the break, but their resistance was broken on the hour mark as Flint levelled with a moment of magic from Elliott Reeves, whose thunderous effort from distance found the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Dropped points for Airbus and Flint meant that Holywell Town closed the gap on the top two as Jake Cooke’s hat-trick inspired them to an emphatic 5-0 victory against Gresford Athletic on Friday night.

The Wellmen found the breakthrough late in the first half as Danny Sullivan headed home from Danny Andrews’ cross, before Cooke netted twice in nine minutes in the second period with a tap in and superb solo goal.

With Gresford pushing heavily in attack, Holywell were making the most of their opportunities as Morgan Murray added a fourth goal by firing into the roof of the net before Cooke completed his hat-trick with another cool finish into the bottom corner to complete a fourth consecutive victory for his side.

Buckley Town’s last league victory came against Ruthin Town all the way back in October, and they looked to be heading for another three points against Phil Hudson’s side only for Llyr Morris to dramatically head home a 95th-minute equaliser to salvage his side a 2-2 draw.

It was a chaotic end to the first half as there were three goals scored in the final six minutes. Callum Humphries and Adam Boydell gave the hosts a two goal lead seconds before Tom Dyer pulled a goal back for Ruthin on the stroke of half time.

The Bucks were on top for the majority of the second half, but were punished for a number of missed opportunities as Morris headed beyond Ryan Goldston from Jake Hughes-Hampson’s cross to rescue Ruthin a point.

Denbigh Town produced a spectacular performance to come from behind to defeat Llandudno 4-1 at Central Park.

Llandudno’s newest recruit Stevan Stanic-Floody took just two minutes to open his account for the club as he headed the Seasiders in front.

However, the Australian’s goal was swiftly cancelled out by Paul Fleming’s equaliser before Nathan Brown’s double gave Denbigh a 3-1 lead at the interval. Matthew Worrall scored his sixth goal in as many games right at the start of the second half to make sure of the win.

Prestatyn Town began life under new boss Matty Roberts in the perfect way as Alfie Vaughan’s dream debut inspired the Seasiders to a 3-2 home victory over Porthmadog in a crucial clash at the bottom of the table.

Port went ahead in the 22nd minute through Danny Brookwell, but Vaughan’s quickfire double turned the game around by the half hour mark.

Substitute Tom Mahoney scored his first goal of the season to draw the visitors level on 76 minutes, but Prestatyn responded once more as Vaughan turned provider for fellow new signing Tom Weir, who also marked his debut in style with a goal to give Prestatyn a first league victory since October.

A Shane Duffy brace helped Mold Alexandra come back from a goal down to see off Llanidloes 4-1 at Alyn Park.

The visitors went ahead through Connor Bird’s penalty, but in-form Mold hit back to open up a two goal cushion in the first half courtesy of Steve Watkins’ strike and Duffy’s double.

Danny Warren then netted for a sixth consecutive game to round off another spectacular performance from Mold to give them a fourth straight league win.

JD Cymru North top goalscorer Corrig McGonigle proved vital once again for Bangor 1876 as they survived a late scare to defeat bottom side Chirk AAA 3-2 at Nantporth.

McGonigle set up Craig Whelan for Bangor’s opening goal in the ninth minute, but the strike was cancelled out by Max McLaughlin for his third goal in three games.

Bangor were on top throughout the majority of the second half and eventually got their reward as McGonigle fired his side back in front before setting up Tom Clarke to add a third for the hosts. Jack Edwards scored his first league goal since October to half the deficit in stoppage time, but Bangor held on for all three points.
