Bala Town clinched the final place in this season’s JD Cymru Premier Championship Conference with a 2-0 win over Connah’s Quay Nomads at Maes Tegid on Friday night.
The Lakesiders had been handed a lifeline after the original fixture on Tuesday was abandoned due to fog after 62 minutes, with the Nomads leading 3-0 at the time – a result which would have condemned Bala to the bottom half.
However, with manager Colin Caton’s demands of “we cannot let that happen again” likely still ringing in their ears, his side earned the three points they needed at the second time of asking.
After a goalless first half not without its chances, Bala found the breakthrough on the hour mark when Ross White’s long ball forward was collected by George Newell who fed Osebi Abadaki, with the winger lashing home a strike that left Nomads goalkeeper George Ratcliffe with no chance.
The second goal arrived just five minutes later when Bala won a free-kick outside the box, with Lassana Mendes laying the ball off for Nathan Burke to curl a superb effort into the bottom corner.
Caton’s men kept hold of their clean sheet for the remainder of the encounter, helped by a double save from Joel Torrance in the final 10 minutes, to secure the crucial win.
