JD Cymru Premier round-up | Haverfordwest County and Barry Town United earn late draws

Kayne Mclaggon scored a sensational 96th-minute equaliser as Barry Town United held JD Cymru Premier champions The New Saints to a 2-2 draw at Park Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Craig Harrison’s side appeared to be heading for three points after Adam Roscrow and Jordan Williams put them two goals up after 81 minutes, but Ollie Hulbert halved the deficit five minutes from time before Town skipper Mclaggon produced the late heroics as TNS dropped points at home in a phase one fixture for the first time since March 2021.

There was also stoppage time drama at Ogi Bridge Meadow, where Rhys Abbruzzese’s pinpoint free-kick in the 96th minute earned Haverfordwest County a 1-1 draw against a Caernarfon Town side who had led through Louis Lloyd. Earlier in the afternoon, Cofis goalkeeper Lewis Webb saved a penalty from Martell Taylor-Crossdale.

Cardiff Met continued their strong start to the season with a 1-0 win against Colwyn Bay on Saturday afternoon. Cymru C international Sam Jones struck the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute.

An own goal from Connah’s Quay Nomads goalkeeper Jon Rushton gifted Bala Town a 1-0 victory over Neil Gibson’s side on Friday night as the Lakesiders made it seven points from a possible nine to start the campaign.

Penybont are on the same tally following their 0-0 draw away at Pontypridd United on Friday. The Dragons had the best chance of the game when Danny Williams hit the post, but they finished the game with nine men following late second bookings for Ethan Vaughan and Ben Ahmun.

Newtown and Aberystwyth Town also played out a goalless draw in Saturday’s late kick-off at Latham Park, with the stalemate earning both clubs their first point of the season.
