JD Cymru Premier round-up | Haverfordwest County close gap on top six with crucial win

Haverfordwest County moved to within three points of a JD Cymru Premier top six spot with a crucial 1-0 away win over Caernarfon Town on Saturday afternoon.

The decisive moment at the Oval came in the 72nd minute when Rio Dyer delightfully controlled Dan Hawkins’ lofted pass before producing a composed finish past Hari Thomas. The Cofis’ woes were compounded by a stoppage time red card for Dion Donohue.

League leaders The New Saints made it 11 consecutive wins in the JD Cymru Premier by defeating Penybont 3-0 at Park Hall.

Jordan Williams beat Alex Pennock at his near post to open the scoring inside the first minute, but it was not until the 81st minute that TNS doubled their lead through Josh Pask’s inadvertent close range finish.

Declan McManus came off the bench in the 87th minute for his first appearance in almost four months and he instantly grabbed his side’s third goal of the afternoon by firing a superb free-kick into the top corner.

Connah’s Quay Nomads remain six points behind TNS following their 3-1 win over Pontypridd United at the Essity Stadium.

All of the Nomads’ goals came in a 19-minute spell in the first half, as Harry Franklin tapped in from close range, Noah Edwards produced a composed finish and Jordan Davies headed in his 14th league goal of the campaign. Pontypridd’s consolation came through captain Clayton Green in the second period.

Cardiff Met took a step closer to confirming a spot in the Championship Conference with a 1-0 victory away at Bala Town on Saturday evening.

The only goal of the game was scored by Eliot Evans in the 17th minute, as the Archers stalwart coolly slid the ball past Kelland Absalom after latching onto Lewis Rees’ defence-splitting pass.
