JD Cymru South round-up | Afan Lido go top with last gasp win over Briton Ferry

Afan Lido went top of the JD Cymru South in dramatic fashion on Friday night as they scored a 93rd-minute winner to defeat Briton Ferry Llansawel 3-2 at Princess Margaret Way.

It was a chaotic encounter between two title contenders, with both sides scoring inside the opening nine minutes. Luke Bowen bagged a brace for the visitors, while Liam McCreesh and Liam Griffiths netted for Lido before substitute Chris Jones found the winner with a stoppage time free-kick after Ferry goalkeeper Rhys Wilson had been sent off.

Llanelli Town kept pace with the top two with a late goal of their own as Sean Cronin scored a 92nd-minute winner in a 2-1 victory over Baglan Dragons – the newly-promoted side’s first defeat of the season. Tom Davies had earlier cancelled out Ethan Cann’s opener.

Ammanford remain fourth and are now level on points with Briton Ferry and Llanelli after their 3-1 win against previously unbeaten Cambrian & Clydach Vale on Saturday. Mathew Fisher, Lewis Reed and Adam John all found the net as Gruff Harrison’s side continued their impressive start to the campaign.

New signing Rhys Thomas came off the bench to score a 91st-minute equaliser in only his second appearance for Abertillery Bluebirds in their 2-2 draw at home to Pontardawe Town on Saturday. It is a first point of the season for Ben Murphy’s side following promotion.

Abergavenny Town claimed their first three points of the season by coming from behind to beat Cwmbran Celtic 2-1 at Pen-Y-Pound on Friday. Lewis Iles’ early goal had set Celtic on the way to victory, but Paolo Marenghi equalised in the 80th minute before Rhys Schwank converted a 91st-minute penalty.

Trefelin and Llantwit Major had to settle for a point in a rollercoaster 3-3 draw at Ynys Park on Saturday. Both sides led for periods in the game, with Cory Woods scoring an 84th-minute equaliser for Trefelin before Llantwit midfielder Rob Jones missed a stoppage time penalty.

Caerau Ely earned their first league win since the opening weekend of the season as they triumphed 3-0 over Goytre United on Friday. A Jack Ashford penalty set the Young Guns on their way to victory in the first half before Dan Bowen and James Williams netted after the break.

Taffs Well and Carmarthen could not be separated in a 1-1 draw on Friday night. Both goals came in the first half as Mason Jones-Thomas cancelled out Owain Edwards’ opener.
