JD Cymru South round-up | Caerau Ely win nine-goal thriller against Pontardawe Town

There was a nine-goal thriller at Parc Ynysderw as braces from Liam Bishop and Ollie Redhead as well as a hat-trick of assists from Tom McClean saw Caerau Ely leap up to ninth-place in the JD Cymru South with an epic 6-3 victory over Pontardawe Town.

Josh Dorward put Pontardawe ahead in the seventh minute, but the visitors opened up a two goal cushion courtesy of in-form striker Brandon Griffiths’ equaliser and a quick fire double from Redhead, with all three goals coming in the space of nine minutes.

Ponty overturned the deficit to make it 3-3 midway through the second half thanks to two quick goals of their own from Joe Lloyd and Tom Davies.

However, a late surge from the Young Guns in the 83rd minute onwards saw Hywel Davies’ controlled finish followed by Bishop’s brace off the bench secure all three points.

Carmarthen Town moved up to second place in the table as Liam Thomas’ second-half strike earned a 1-0 home win over Abertillery Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds have shown improvement of late in their bid for a great escape, but their resistance was broken in the 69th minute at the LHP Stadium as Thomas was in the right place at the right time to turn home Tom Dyson’s initial scuffed effort.

Baglan Dragons secured a third consecutive victory as they came from behind to triumph 2-1 over Goytre United on home turf.

The visitors led in the 13th minute as captain Jordan Edwards bagged his seventh league goal of the season, but their advantage lasted just three minutes as Jay Thomas slotted the Dragons level from the penalty spot.

The decisive moment came in the 57th minute as Jordan Evans, who won the first half penalty for his side, fired home a fierce effort from distance.
