JD Cymru South round-up | Goalscoring goalkeepers grab the headlines

Goalkeepers stole the headlines on Saturday afternoon in the JD Cymru South as both Llanelli Town’s Scott Coughlan and Baglan Dragons’ Mathew Stanton scored from long-range kicks.

Coughlan’s effort was the second goal in Llanelli’s 3-1 away win at Pontardawe Town, in which summer signings Ethan Cann and David Lyon also scored to earn a second consecutive victory for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Stanton’s magic moment wrapped up a 4-1 win for Baglan Dragons away at Llantwit Major as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season following promotion. Tom Randall, Levi Waters and Jonathan Davies also found the net.

Following their stunning comeback in midweek, Ammanford performed more late heroics to come from behind to win 2-1 away at Caerau Ely.

Liam Bishop gave the Young Guns the lead early in the second half, but Mathew Fisher equalised in the 72ndminute before turning provider for Lewis Reed’s 86th-minute winner as Gruff Harrison’s made it nine points from a possible nine.

Briton Ferry Llansawel also recorded a third consecutive victory as they triumphed 3-0 away at Taffs Well on Friday night. The prolific strike partnership of Tom Walters and Luke Bowen led the charge, with the former scoring twice after setting up the latter for the opener.

The final team still with a 100% record are Afan Lido, who won 2-1 away at Abergavenny Town on Friday night. Sacha Walters gave the Reds the lead on the stroke of half-time before substitute Dillan Campbell equalised for the hosts, but Lido captain Liam Griffiths arrived with the winner 18 minutes from time.

Trefelin got their first points of the season in style as they triumphed 3-0 away Goytre United, who have slipped to the bottom of the table. Cory Saunders, Roan Piper and substitute Damon Thomas all netted.

Cambrian & Clydach Vale overcame Abertillery Bluebirds 2-0 away from home on Saturday despite Tim Parker seeing red just before the hour mark. Shane Davies scored for the third consecutive game by netting a penalty on the stroke of half-time, before captain Ceri Morgan scored in second half stoppage time.

Mason Jones-Thomas scored his first goal for Carmarthen Town following his summer move from Trefelin, finding the net in the 72nd minute away at Cwmbran Celtic to earn a 1-0 win.
