JD Cymru South round-up | Llanelli Town captain Joe Hopkins delivers late on as Reds keep winning

Llanelli Town captain Joe Hopkins netted a 93rd-minute winner as the JD Cymru South leaders secured a dramatic 2-1 away victory over Baglan Dragons on Saturday.

Tom Davies gave the Dragons the lead by converting from the penalty spot in the 35th minute, but Llanelli substitute Curtis Hutson continued his fine form to draw the Reds level midway through the second half.

Just when it looked like the game would finish all square, Hopkins popped up with a last-gasp goal to complete the turnaround for the Reds, who have now won live games in a row.

Lee John’s side are now five points clear at the top of the table after Briton Ferry Llansawel’s fixture against Afan Lido was postponed and Ammanford were held to a goalless draw away at Cambrian & Clydach Vale.

Somehow neither side were able to find the net at the M&P Group 3G, with Vale denied by the woodwork twice before Ammanford striker Lewis Reed had an effort saved from point-blank range. Dave Vincent was sent off late on for the hosts.

Kyle Williams scored a 97th-minute equaliser to earn Abertillery Bluebirds a 2-2 draw against Pontardawe Town in a huge clash in the relegation battle on Saturday.

Tom Rees’ early second half screamer for the Bluebirds cancelled out Cameron Harris’ opener for Ponty, but the hosts restored their lead through Steve Berry, who headed home from Tyler Aylward’s corner.

That looked to be enough to earn the hosts a crucial first win since the start of January, but Williams salvaged a point for the Bluebirds in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

It was a result that saw Pontardawe drop into the relegation zone, as Llantwit Major climbed out of the bottom three by triumphing 3-1 over Trefelin – their fourth successive home victory.

Tom Krauze scored his first ever goal for Trefelin to break the deadlock on 28 minutes, before Ioan Emanuel drew Major level from the penalty spot, which also resulted in a red card for Trefelin’s Damon Thomas.

The man advantage proved key in the second half as Joel Woodington’s fifth goal in five games and Tom Tweedy’s composed near post finish sealed an impressive victory for Major.

Carmarthen Town won for the first time in four games as Noah Daley’s brace secured a 2-0 victory over Taffs Well at the LHP Stadium.

Daley produced a moment of solo brilliance to open the scoring five minutes before the break and he then doubled up for the afternoon with a powerful drive on the counter attack in the 72nd minute.
