JD Cymru South round-up | Llantwit Major stun leaders Briton Ferry Llansawel

JD Cymru South leaders Briton Ferry Llansawel were stunned on Saturday afternoon as they suffered a 3-1 defeat away to strugglers Llantwit Major.

Tom Walbeoff finished at the back post to put Major in front inside 11 minutes but the game was level before half-time as Luke Bowen found the net with his 16th league goal of the season.

However, Ferry were unable to clear another in-swinging corner, allowing Walbeoff to head home from close range to grab a brace and restore his side’s lead early in the second half. Joel Woodington’s finish in the 73rdminute wrapped up a surprising three points for the hosts.

It means that second-place Llanelli Town now sit five points behind Ferry with a game in hand following their entertaining 3-2 victory over Afan Lido at Stebonheath Park on Friday.

Joe Hopkins cancelled out Josh Webber’s fourth minute goal as the two sides went into the break all square. Tom Hillman then marked his return to Stebo in style as his second half brace gave the hosts a two goal cushion. Webber halved the deficit with his second of the night for Lido, but they were unable to find a late leveller.

Trefelin BGC earned their third consecutive home victory in the JD Cymru South with a 3-1 comeback victory over Caerau Ely at Ynys Park.

Brandon Griffiths put the visitors into a fifth minute lead, but their advantage didn’t last long as two goals in two minutes from Jack Bevan and Ceri Williams instantly turned the game around in Trefelin’s favour.

Roan Piper’s finish midway through the second half proved to be enough to secure all three points as Andy Hill’s side moved up to 11th in the table.

Substitute Charlie Lewis scored a late equaliser to salvage a point for Taffs Well in a 1-1 draw away at bottom side Abertillery Bluebirds.

The hosts looked to be heading for just their second league win of the season Michael Vagg found the breakthrough just before the interval, but the in-form Wellmen had other ideas as Lewis’ composed finish in the 85th minute stretched his side’s unbeaten streak to six games.

Young forward Tom Davies gave Pontardawe an early lead before both sides were reduced to ten men after tempers had flared. Rio Booth and Lewis Ellaway were involved in a heated altercation, resulting in straight red cards for both men.

The incident didn’t affect the scoreline as Pontardawe held onto their lead for the remainder of the match to secure back-to-back home victories.

Goytre United’s JD Cymru South resurgence continued as Keane Watts struck a late equaliser to snatch a 2-2 draw away to Carmarthen Town.

Goytre captain Jordan Edwards put his side ahead in the tenth minute, but Carmarthen hit back and edged in front thanks to goals from Noah Daley and Liam Thomas.

However, the Old Gold suffered late heartbreak when Watts popped up with his seventh league goal in six games to clinch a point for Goytre, who climb back into the top half.

Ammanford suffered defeat in the league for the first time since September as Cwmbran Celtic earned a 2-1 comeback victory over Gruff Harrison’s side.

Lewis Reed scored in his third straight league game to open the scoring for Ammanford, but goals from Tom Meechan and Harrison Lewis completed a turnaround which gave Celtic a second consecutive win and moved them up to seventh.

Ammanford remain in fifth, but are also being closed down by Cambrian & Clydach Vale, who comfortably claimed all three points against Baglan Dragons in a 2-0 victory.

Tim Parker bagged his first league goal since September to break the deadlock after 36 minutes, then Liam Reed doubled the lead early in the second half. The Dragons slip down to 12th following a fourth successive defeat.
