JD Cymru South round-up | Nine-man Afan Lido stage remarkable late comeback

Afan Lido staged a remarkable late comeback with nine men to draw 3-3 with Carmarthen Town in the JD Cymru South on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds were a goal down and a man down at half-time following Noah Daley’s opener and Liam McCreesh’s red card. Daley scored again after the break and Mason Jones-Thomas added a third, while a second yellow card for Lido’s Ioan Evans appeared to make their task impossible.

However, Josh Webber got one back in the 88th minute and Liam Griffiths netted another in the 92nd , before substitute Carlos Indjai scored a remarkable equaliser in the 97th.

Llanelli Town’s six-game winning run was brought to a dramatic halt on Friday night as Trefelin snatched a 2-1 victory at Stebonheath.

All three goals came in the final 16 minutes, with David Lyon’s long-range strike cancelling out Callum Saunders’ opener before Roan Piper tapped home in the 89th minute to earn Trefelin just a second league win of the season.

Lido and Llanelli dropping points means that Briton Ferry Llansawel end the weekend top of the table following their 3-0 home win over Abergavenny Town.

After a goalless first half, Luke Bowen broke the deadlock from close range and it remained 1-0 until stoppage time goals for teenage substitutes Caleb Demery and Mckenzie Ace.

Ammanford have moved up to third place, level on points with Briton Ferry and Afan Lido, following their 3-1 away win at Pontardawe Town.

Two penalties in the first half, from Ammanford’s Lewis Reed and then Ponty’s Tyler Aylward, cancelled each other out before Reed found the net again after the break and substitute Tristian Jenkins wrapped up the win.

Cwmbran Celtic kept up their reputation as late goal specialists in a 1-1 draw against Taffs Well at Celtic Park. Owain Edwards’ first half goal appeared to have earned the Wellmen all three points, but Josh Hinwood scored a 95th-minute equaliser for Celtic.

Llantwit Major slipped into the relegation zone following a 4-1 home defeat to Caerau Ely. The Major led early on through Josh Morgan, but Brandon Griffiths struck a hat-trick for the Young Guns and Lathan Garrett also found the net.

Newly-promoted duo Baglan Dragons and Abertillery Bluebirds had to settle for a point each in a 1-1 draw at Evans Bevans Playing Fields. Kyle Williams gave the visitors the lead in the 10th minute, but they were denied victory by Levi Waters’ equaliser in the 84th minute.

Goytre United made it back-to-back league wins by triumphing 1-0 over Cambrian & Clydach Vale at Glenhafod Park. Jordan Edwards scored the only goal in the 67th minute.
