JD Cymru South round-up | Record-breaking Friday night win for Llanelli Town

Llanelli Town earned the biggest margin of victory since the formation of the JD Cymru South by thrashing Abertillery Bluebirds 9-0 on Friday night.

The Reds ran riot at Stebonheath, with Joe Hopkins, Ethan Cann and Josh Allen all scoring twice alongside one goal each for Sam Johnson, Adam Robbins and Calum Bateman.

Llanelli’s win took them to the summit of the table on Friday night, but Briton Ferry Llansawel restored top spot with a 4-2 victory away at Pontardawe Town on Saturday.

Teenager Jasper Payne twice put Ferry ahead in the first half only for Ryan Kostromin and Callum Silcox to draw Ponty level on each occasion. However, two second half goals from Luke Bowen, the second from the penalty spot, earned the three points for the visitors.

Afan Lido left it late to claim a 1-0 derby win over Baglan Dragons at Evans Bevans Playing Fields on Saturday afternoon. Ioan Evans scored the winning goal in the 90th minute as he headed home from Ieuan Owen’s cross.

Cwmbran Celtic made it back-to-back league wins as they held on to triumph 3-2 against 10-man Caerau Ely at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Andrew Larcombe gave Celtic an early lead before Brandon Griffiths was sent off, but the Young Guns still managed to find an equaliser through James Williams. Alex Bonthron and Alex McDowall netted either side of half-time to put the hosts 3-1 in front, while a second goal for Williams proved to only be a consolation for Caerau Ely.

Cambrian & Clydach Vale’s poor recent form continued with a 2-0 defeat away at Carmarthen Town. Both goals came inside the opening 13 minutes as Mason Jones-Thomas and Jordan Langley got on the scoresheet.

Andy Hill’s first game as Trefelin manager ended 1-1 against Taffs Well at Ynys Park. Jack Bevan gave the hosts an early lead in the seventh minute, but Will Toms’ first goal for the Wellmen levelled the contest just before the half hour mark.

Rivals Llantwit Major and Ammanford were forced to settle for a point each in a 0-0 draw at Lôn Melin Wynt. The Major remain in the relegation zone while Ammanford slip to fourth place.
