Novira Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 23-24 October

After last weekend’s FAW Welsh Cup action the Novira Cymru Leagues returns with plenty to look forward to. Here are the key games to watch.

Novira Cymru Premier – Trefelin vs Flint Town United (Friday, 7:45pm)

Key points are up for grabs at the bottom of the Novira Cymru Premier as Trefelin host Flint Town United at Elsey Creative Ynys Park on Friday.

Trefelin secured an historic first ever Novira Cymru Premker victory two weeks ago as they stunned Cardiff Met with a 3-1 away victory in the capital. That epic result sent Andy Hill’s side to within just three points of safety and they will now be confident they can achieve a first ever top-flight win on home soil. Jasper Jones, who scored in the win over Met, was a standout performer for Tref in the FAW Welsh Cup last weekend as his hat-trick inspired a 4-1 win over Llantwit Major.

Jones picked up 13 goals in Trefelin’s title winning campaign in the Novira Cymru South

14th-place Flint made the perfect start to life under newly-appointed manager Danny Holmes with wins and clean sheets against Ammanford and Haverfordwest County, but the Silkmen missed the chance to move out of the bottom three in their last league outing as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Colwyn Bay.

Tunde Owolabi’s third goal of the season put Flint ahead against Caernarfon Town in the FAW Welsh Cup, but Holmes’ side eventually lost 3-1 in a repeat of last season’s final in that competition. Flint have only won six league matches in 2026 so far and five of those have come away from home.

Novira Cymru Premier – Connah’s Quay Nomads vs Llandudno (Saturday, 12:30pm)

Two sides in contrasting form meet in the JD Cymru Premier on Saturday as second-place Connah’s Quay Nomads hope to continue their impressive winning run against Llandudno at the Essity Stadium on Saturday.

Connah’s Quay have been in scintillating form over the past month, with John Disney’s side climbing to second in the table, just six points behind leaders The New Saints. Hard-fought league victories over Penybont (1-0) and Briton Ferry Llansawel (2-1) were followed by a seventh consecutive win last Friday, as the Nomads cruised to a 4-0 triumph over Porthmadog in the FAW Welsh Cup.

Disney’s new-look squad has also shone defensively, conceding just one goal from open play at the Essity Stadium so far this season. The Nomads will now be aiming to record five consecutive clean sheets on home turf for the first time in over four years.

Nomads’ right-back Hughes has featured in every game this season

Llandudno were sitting comfortably in the top half after their first seven Novira Cymru Premier games, but Jordan Hadaway’s side are now without a league win in their last six outings. A 4-1 defeat at home to Airbus UK Broughton two weeks ago marked a rare heavy home loss for Llandudno, who are still 10th in the table. The Seasiders refound some joy in the FAW Welsh Cup last weekend with a 1-0 victory away to third-tier outfit Llannefydd thanks to Mark Cadwallader’s sole goal, but Hadaway will still be looking for improvements, with the manager claiming his side have gone through a “difficult period”.

Llandudno stunned the Nomads in the FAW Welsh Cup third round last season as goals from Ben Maher and Ross Weaver secured a memorable 2-1 home win.

Novira Cymru North – Porthmadog vs Brickfield Rangers (Saturday, 2:30pm)

An exciting battle at the top end of the Novira Cymru North awaits as fourth-place Porthmadog host leaders Brickfield Rangers at Y Traeth on Saturday.

Porthmadog have been a surprise package in their first season back in the second tier as they have won seven out of their 11 opening games. Chris Jones’ edged past Gresford Athletic 1-0 last time out in the Novira Cymru North to claim their fourth straight league win. Port were well beaten 4-0 by Connah’s Quay Nomads in the FAW Welsh Cup last weekend, but they will be hoping that does not knock their bright league form. Victory for Saturday’s hosts would send them just one point behind Brickfield.

Robbie Williams and the Port defence have gone 402 minutes without conceding a league goal

Few would have predicted Brickfield to be in the position they are in at this stage of the season as they hold a four-point lead at the top of the table. Gareth Wilson’s team did suffer their first home defeat of the season after losing 4-0 to Mold Alexandra earlier in October, but a 2-0 victory for the Rangers over Llangefni Town in the FAW Welsh Cup last weekend may mean that loss was just a slight blip. The current Novira Cymru North top scorer Andy Vale has remained consistent for Brickfield with six goal contributions in his last five games.

The only previous meeting between these two sides came in the 2024/25 Ardal North League Cup final where Porthmadog earned a 4-1 win to get their hands on the trophy.

Novira Cymru South – Llanelli Town vs Afan Lido (Friday, 7:30pm)

There is extra intrigue surrounding Friday’s Novira Cymru South clash between bottom-of-the-table Llanelli Town and Afan Lido at Stebonheath Park following an eventful week for both clubs.

Afan Lido announced the departure of Lee John as their General Manager on Tuesday afternoon, and just a few hours later, the 43-year-old was reappointed as Llanelli manager following Terry Boyle’s resignation, with John claiming he has “unfinished business” at the club he won the Novira Cymru South title with in 2024/25.

Although John will not be returning to the dugout until Llanelli’s trip to Pontypridd United next weekend, he is tasked with a major turnaround at the Reds, who are bottom of the table on just two points and are still awaiting their first league win of the season. Llanelli were beaten 6-2 by Ynyshir Albions in their last league fixture before they suffered another heavy 6-0 defeat at the hands of Caerau Ely in the FAW Welsh Cup last Friday.

John previously guided the Reds to promotion to the Novira Cymru Premier before departing midway through last season

Lido head to Stebonheath currently sat in 10th-place after their thrilling 5-5 draw with league leaders Pure Swansea a fortnight ago. Lee Surman’s side also proved to be a stern test in the FAW Welsh Cup last weekend as they were only edged out 3-2 by top-flight Penybont. Lido are unbeaten in four out of their last six matches in all competitions, but have conceded 22 league goals this season – only Llanelli have conceded more (33).

Llanelli have an impressive record against Lido as they have won seven out of the last nine meetings, with the other two ending in draws. Llanelli won 1-0 away from home when they faced Lido in early 2025 before both sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture that season.
