Novira Cymru South round-up: Pontypridd United’s goalscoring form continues

Pontypridd United continued their perfect start to the Novira Cymru South as Ethan Edwards and Eli Phipps both scored twice in a 4-1 win over Cardiff Draconians at Lydstep Park.

The Dracs nearly took the lead in the 36th minute as Carlos Indjai saw his header cleared off the line, but a moment of brilliance from Edwards four minutes later put Pontypridd ahead as the forward curled his effort into the net from the edge of the area.

Ponty thought they would be going into the break with the lead, but the Dracs hit back as veteran Luke Gullick, who was making his first appearance for his new club, headed home from Myles Corson’s cross.

New Dracs signing Gullick spent 11 years at Pontypridd after joining the club in 2014

However, a four-minute blitz from the visitors in the second half saw them take control as Phipps scored his quickfire double before Edwards also completed his brace for his fourth goal of the season already. Matt Driscoll’s side are also the top scorers in the division so far with 10 goals across their first three wins.

Pure Swansea also made it three wins from three matches with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Llanelli Town at Swansea Bay Sport Park on Saturday.

Pure Swansea took the lead in the 26th minute through their captain Jordan Hughes. Kyle Copp had the chance to double the lead early in the second half from the penalty spot when he was fouled inside the area by Keiran Dawe, but his spot kick was saved by Luke Masrani.

However, a clinical finish from teenager Mason Kelly eventually made it 2-0 before Jordan Lloyd-Evans retrieved a loose ball and added a third goal in stoppage-time to fully put the game to bed.

Carmarthen Town are the third team to win their opening three games as the Old Gold triumphed 3-1 against Afan Lido at the LHP Stadium.

Carmarthen skipper Tyler Aylward bundled the ball in the midst of a goalmouth scramble to put his side ahead on 26 minutes before his goal was cancelled out by Cameron Keetch in first half stoppage-time as the Lido forward sent a powerful shot into the net from outside the area.

Lewis Reed restored Carmarthen’s advantage just four minutes into the second half though, as Dion Phillips was brought down inside the area after his epic solo run, allowing Reed to fire home from the penalty spot. A composed finish at the near post from Ryan Bevan fully ensured Rhodri Thomas’ side maintained their perfect start. Carmarthen have now won three consecutive league matches for the first time since January 2025.

Caerau Ely put their early disappointments behind them as Tim Parker’s hat-trick helped secure a 4-2 victory away to Trethomas Bluebirds.

Parker opened the scoring after just 10 minutes played as he met Owen Bancroft’s cross and guided the ball home into an empty net.

Osian Rees’ strike across goal and Jonathan Hood’s deflected effort from the edge of the area completed a quickfire turnaround for the Bluebirds, but Parker was in the right place at the right time as Liam Bishop’s headed delivery back across goal allowed the forward to nod in from just three yards out.

The Young Guns were now in their full attacking flow and restored their lead with a well-worked move as Zack Maher’s neat dummy allowed Parker to square the ball for Bishop, who scored for the third consecutive weekend with a clinical finish.

Parker completed his hat-trick and made sure Caerau left the CCB Centre with their first victory of the season as he received Joe Woodiwiss’ clipped pass, raced through on goal and slotted past Steven Cann when one-on-one with the Trethomas goalkeeper.

Baglan Dragons also claimed their first league win of the season as they beat Llantwit Major 1-0 at the UWL Stadium.

The decisive moment arrived two minutes before the interval as Toby Jones scored his first goal for the Dragons since his transfer from Carmarthen Town earlier this summer. Carl Clement’s side saw out a fiery second half to take home all three points.

Newport City returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 victory over Pontardawe Town at Parc Ynysderw.

Jake Wilson scored from Jonah Williams’ cross to get Newport up and running in the 14th minute before striker Tom Lynch bagged his first goal for the club to add a second for the hosts.

Lynch then clinched his brace midway through the second half to put the Steelmen in a commanding position. Substitute Ellis Sage wrapped things up with six minutes remaining as the youngster marked his first appearance this season with a goal to give Newport their biggest league win since January 2025.

Treowen Stars continued their bright form with a 3-0 victory over Caerphilly Athletic at Bush Park.

The Stars made a dream start and established a two-goal lead inside just five minutes as Carter Campbell twice set up Tom Hillman, who sent a looping effort over Ben Haines before slotting home from a tight angle.

Campbell grabbed his third assist of the afternoon early in the second half to provide Morgan Evans with his first goal since returning to the club following two years away. The result gave the Stars their first clean sheet in the league since February as Ben Murphy’s side earned consecutive wins.
