Penybont booked their place in the JD Cymru Premier European play-off final with a dominant 5-0 win over Newtown at Latham Park on Saturday.
Chris Venables and Gabe Kircough both scored twice and Mark Little also netted in an emphatic display from Rhys Griffiths’ side.
The tie was all but over at half-time after Penybont scored three times in the opening 33 minutes to stun their hosts.
With just six minutes on the clock, Venables’ delivery into the box was headed down by Mael Davies and Kircough provided a clever finish on the turn into the bottom corner.
Venables had already scored three times in two games against Newtown this season and he doubled Penybont’s advantage in the 18th minute. The veteran striker was at the back post to meet Kane Owen’s deflected cross with a header which crashed in off the crossbar.
Owen was also involved in Venables’ second goal 15 minutes later. The Bont skipper’s low corner was met by a scuffed effort from Kircough, but Newtown failed to clear and the ball trickled through to Venables who poked home from close range.
Kircough completed a brace of his own on 63 minutes as he surged forward and played a one-two with Lewis Harling before turning the ball past Andy Wycherley.
Little got in on the act 10 minutes later when he scored his first goal since November 2019. The veteran defender drove forward from his own half, skipping past multiple Newtown players before lashing home a low strike.
Rhys Griffiths’ side will travel to Caernarfon Town on Saturday 18 May (KO 14:45), with the winner taking their place in next season’s UEFA Conference League first qualifying round.
