Pontypridd United v Colwyn Bay selected as dedicated Football v Homophobia fixture

Saturday’s JD Cymru Premier fixture between Pontypridd United and Colwyn Bay has been selected as a dedicated Football v Homophobia match, as the FAW continues to mark the campaign’s Month of Action.

Football v Homophobia exists to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity at all levels of football.

The campaign aims to make football welcoming and inclusive for LGBTQ+ individuals, by creating opportunities and improving the representation across the sport.

The Month of Action is now in its 15th year and is a period where clubs, fans, players and football authorities are encouraged to focus their efforts.

Multiple clubs across the Welsh domestic system have already held their own Football v Homophobia dedicated fixtures this month and Saturday’s game at USW Sports Park, which will be broadcast live on Sgorio, will aim to raise further awareness of the importance of the campaign.

Carys Ingram (She/Her), Equality, Diversity, Inclusion Executive at the FAW said: “The Football v Homophobia campaign is an annual opportunity for all involved in football across Cymru to come together to show their support for our LGBTQ+ community.

“It’s visibility, campaigning and messaging over the last 15 years has changed the landscape of football, educating and creating a safe environment for our LGBTQ+ football family in Wales to know that they belong.

“The FAW will continue to use its platform to highlight LGBTQ+ challenges and barriers across the game, while celebrating the stories and experiences of those from the LGBTQ+ community on and off the field; in addition to working toward a future where everyone, everywhere in Wales feels they belong.”
