SECOND HALF
Cymru get the second period of play underway and will look to find an equaliser.
-
Watts has kept Cymru’s qualification hopes alive during that first half as Czechia’s confidence grew.
-
HALF-TIME: Cymru 0-1 Czechia
After starting the game positively with Cotterill hitting the post and King coming close with a header, the first half was turned on its head in the 27th minute.
An attack down the right saw Czechia work the ball into the box where Icha chested the ball down before unleashing a powerful strike that ended up in the back of the net when Baker’s outstretched foot diverted the ball past Watts. The Cymru keeper kept his team in it with two superb saves to deny the dominant Czechia.
More is needed in the second half from Cymru if they are to secure a play-off spot as a minimum from this final qualifying match.
-
Watts to the rescue again as he denies Jurásek with an excellent save as Czechia approach half-time in complete control of the match.
-
Sejk stays onside to break into the box and looked certain to score a second but Watts saved Cymru with a fine save.

Goal: Cymru 0-1 Czechia
Czechia have taken the lead after they broke down the right and when the cross was sent into the box Icha chests the ball down before shooting. The ball deflects off Baker and into the back of the net.
-
Czechia are given a free kick on the edge of the Cymru 18-yard box Vydra sends the ball into the defensive wall.
-
Cymru are very much on top as they go on the attack again with their latest move being finished off by a King header that is well saved by Horniček, with the keeper pushing the ball away from danger.
-
Thomas goes free down the right wing and crosses into the Czechia box where a defender was able to clear under some considerable pressure. Another positive move from Cymru.
-
With 10 minutes played, Cymru have been enjoying plenty of possession and have hit the post so far in the match. It has been a really positive start from Matty Jones’ team.

-
The state of play
Matty Jones’ side sit level on points with group leaders Denmark and can secure automatic qualification for the UEFA U21 EURO finals if they better Denmark’s result in their final qualifier, which takes place on Tuesday against Iceland. While a draw against Czechia would be enough for Cymru to seal at least a play-off for the first time since 2008.
-
The qualifying journey
Cian Ashford’s dramatic late strike earned Matty Jones’ side a 1-1 draw in their previous meeting with Czechia earlier in the campaign.

Savage targets U21 history
Charlie Savage believes the Cymru U21 side can make history on Friday night and qualify for the UEFA U21 EURO finals for the first time.
“The effort that has gone into the last two years of qualifying, we’ve built up a real bond and qualifying would mean the world to us,” he explained. “Hopefully it gives us the platform to step up and there’s a number of us who will be able to look back at this moment.
“There’s a fine balance between making the step up to the seniors but also wanting to do really well for the under-21s, but as a group I think we’ve got that balance. It’s a great to be able to shift between the age groups and every time someone steps up or does well, we’re on the group chat.”
Savage also praised the contribution of head coach Matty Jones in what is his first qualifying campaign. “There’s a real family feel here in the squad. I can’t speak highly enough of the manager, who treats us all like sons.”
