Genero Adran Premier preview: Wrexham return to the Racecourse as last season’s top two meet

Last season’s Genero Adran Premier top two meet for the first time in the new campaign as Cardiff City host Briton Ferry Llansawel on Sunday (KO 14:00).

Both sides suffered defeat on the opening day of the season, with the Bluebirds losing 1-0 away at The New Saints and Ferry squandering a two-goal lead to lose 5-2 at home against Wrexham.

Cardiff have not lost two consecutive league games since March 2022, while they only lost once at home in the entirety of last season. Former Bluebird Grace Evans makes an instant return to the capital, having signed for Briton Ferry in the summer.

After a thrilling 2-2 draw in the first meeting between the two sides last season, Ferry triumphed 3-1 at Old Road in December before Cardiff were victorious in both Phase Two encounters.

After their statement win over Cardiff City on the opening weekend, The New Saints travel to Aberystwyth Town (KO 14:00).

Chantelle Teare’s second half goal proved enough to earn the Saints their first ever league win over the Bluebirds and a first victory under new manager Jodie Williams, who praised her side’s resilience.

Aberystwyth also made a winning start with a new face in the dugout as Rhys Jon James led the Seasiders to a 2-0 win away at Pontypridd United in his first game in charge, thanks to goals from Modlen Gwynne and Carys Bufton.

TNS won both meetings between the two sides last season, earning an emphatic 6-1 victory at Park Hall before Lia Lewis’ late penalty saw them triumph 1-0 away at Park Avenue.

Due to maintenance work needed at The Rock, the STōK Cae Ras will host Wrexham’s clash with Barry Town United, live on Sgorio (KO 17:10).

Wrexham trailed by two goals against Briton Ferry in their opening day fixture, but a remarkable comeback, which included four second half goals, saw the Red Dragons claim a 5-2 victory to get the Jenny Sugarman era off to the perfect start.

Barry were beaten 4-0 at home to Swansea City in their opening fixture, and they will be without goalkeeper Molly Arnesen on Sunday following her straight red card against the Swans.

Ellie Preece’s goal earned Barry a 1-0 win in the first meeting between the two sides last season, but Wrexham would claim a 3-1 victory in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals and a thrilling 4-3 win in the league‘s reverse fixture within the space of a one week.

Wrexham v Barry Town United

Swansea City were the opening day’s biggest winners and they now begin their home campaign against Pontypridd United at Llandarcy.

Yzzy Taylor was interim manager for Swansea’s five consecutive wins at the end of last season, and she picked up where she left off in her first game in permanent charge as her side stormed to an emphatic 4-0 win away to Barry Town United last weekend. The Swans are currently on a six-match winning streak in the Genero Adran Premier, which is their best run since 2021.

Newly-promoted Pontypridd were beaten 2-0 at home by Aberystwyth in their first game back in the top-flight, but goalkeeper Alysha Hawkins starred with a number of key saves.

Swansea have won the last 10 meetings between the two sides. Goalkeeper Amelia Forkings and defender Caitlin Seaborne both joined the Swans from Pontypridd in the summer, so will immediately face their former club.
