Wrexham to meet FC Pyunik in UEFA Women’s Champions League

Wrexham have been drawn against FC Pyunik from Armenia in the semi-final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League first qualifying round.

The Red Dragons, who won the Genero Adran Premier for the first time in 2025/26, were unseeded in Thursday’s draw in Nyon and placed into Group 3.

Pyunik were crowned champions of Armenia for the third consecutive season in 2025/26, after winning all 18 of their league matches while scoring 107 goals and conceding just eight. They also recorded their first-ever win in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last year with a 1-0 victory over Bulgaria’s NSA Sofia in the first qualifying round semi-final, before falling to North Macedonian side Ljuboten in the final.

The winner of the semi-final will meet the winner of the other Group 3 semi-final between Glentoran of Northern Ireland and Riga FC of Latvia in the final, with the victor progressing to the second qualifying round. The losers of both semi-finals will meet in the third-place play-off.

The location of all matches in Group 3 will be confirmed in due course. The semi-final takes place on Wednesday 22 July, before the final and third-place play-off on Saturday 25 July.

If Wrexham are victorious in the first qualifying round, they will face HB Køge of Denmark in the second qualifying round semi-final on 5 August, before meeting either FC Gintra of Lithuania or Hearts of Scotland in the final or third-place play-off on 8 August.

“First and foremost, it was a really proud moment for us to be there in Nyon representing Wrexham,” manager Jenny Sugarman told the club’s official website after the draw.

“We were one of a number of debutants in the draw and although we don’t know a huge amount about the teams in the draw, we’re happy with the group that we’ve got, especially being in a four-team mini tournament. It’s our job now to do our research and find out as much as possible about these teams.”
