Cardiff City to meet FC Twente in UEFA Women’s Champions League

Cardiff City have been drawn to play Dutch side FC Twente in the semi-final stage of the 2024/25 UEFA Women’s Champions League first qualifying round.

The other semi-final in the Bluebirds’ qualifying group sees Iceland’s Valur face ŽFK Ljuboten of North Macedonia.

The two semi-final winners will meet in the final for a place in the second qualifying round, while the two losers will meet in the third-place play-off.

The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday 4 September, before the final and third-place play-off on Saturday 7 September. All matches in the group will be hosted by one of the clubs (to be determined).

FC Twente have won the Eredivisie Vrouwen title in three of the last four seasons and six times in total. They have reached the round of 16 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League on three previous occasions, most recently in 2020.

In Group 5’s other semi-final, Valur are 14-time champions of the Icelandic squad and their squad contains multiple Iceland internationals, while ŽFK Ljuboten have won the title in North Macedonia in each of the last three seasons.
