Genero Adran North round-up: Connah’s Quay Nomads make flying start to title defence

Reigning Genero Adran North champions Connah’s Quay Nomads kicked off their title defence with a 5-2 victory away at last season’s runners-up Llanfair United.

The Nomads took just two minutes to find the breakthrough at Mount Field as Ella Jones received Phoebe Ellis’ threaded pass and made no mistake slotting past Ffion Davies. A superb solo goal from Hannah Slack doubled the lead in the 14th minute as the teenager ran through the Llanfair defence and fired across goal and into the net via the post.

However, Llanfair fought back and halved the deficit two minutes before half-time when new signing Tania Wylde curled beyond Nomads debutant goalkeeper Meg Bowen. The hosts were then level on 54 minutes when in-form striker Sophie Cook scored her fifth goal of the season already by tapping home the rebound from Emma Williams’ saved effort.

The contest was all square for just eight minutes though as Nomads captain Polly Wild-McGregor opened her league account for the new season by tapping home from Jones’ low cross. The visitors sealed victory late on as Aimee Redfern headed in from Ellis’ corner in the 78th minute before substitute Megan Galeandro produced a stunning free-kick in stoppage time.

Flint Town United scored a stoppage time winner – for the third time in all competitions already this season – to triumph 3-2 away at Berriew.

Berriew led at half-time thanks to Dottie Evans’ 21st-minute goal, but Flint had turned the game around by the hour mark as Zoe Stopford scored twice in the space of 10 minutes.

Evans netted her second of the afternoon to bring the hosts level on 78 minutes, but they were denied their first point in the Genero Adran North as Jennifer Haynes popped up with the winner for Flint in the 92nd minute when her cross-turned-shot sailed over Sarah Parkes.
