Genero Adran Premier round-up: Cardiff City and Wrexham both win again as title race continues to hot up

There continues to be no let-up in the Genero Adran Premier title race as Cardiff City and Wrexham both won again on Sunday afternoon.

Cardiff remain top of the table by one point following their 2-1 victory over Swansea City in the capital.

The Bluebirds took the lead on 28 minutes when Fiona Barry fed through Lily Billingham, who coolly chipped the ball over Swans goalkeeper Amelia Forkings. However, the visitors were level just six minutes later as Eilish Mitchell’s cross caught out Ceryn Chamberlain and sneaked into the net.

Lily Billingham’s goal had City in the lead for only six minutes

The first half drama continued four minutes before the break when Cardiff retook the lead. Good work from Mackenzie Olden on the right flank saw the forward deliver a cross into Laura Curnock who turned the ball home for her 12th league goal of the campaign.

That proved to be the winning goal, as Cardiff made it back-to-back wins over their rivals and Swansea’s own title hopes were ended by defeat.

Wrexham – who have played one game less than Cardiff – remain hot on the reigning champions’ tails following their 1-0 win away at The New Saints.

Both sides had opportunities in a cagey opening hour of the contest, but it was Wrexham who eventually took the lead in the 67th minute thanks to a superb solo goal from substitute Faye Knox. The 21-year-old dribbled in-between Lia Lewis and Zara Gibbs, ghosted past Kay Baker and then finished past Orla Howard.

That proved to be the winning goal, while TNS finished the contest with nine players after Mia Davies and Yasmin Evans were both shown second yellow cards late on.

Faye Knox goal was enough to seal Wrexham the three points

Wrexham’s game in hand comes away against Swansea City on Wednesday night, before Cardiff City travel to the Racecourse next Sunday for a potentially decisive encounter in the title race.

Aberystwyth Town scored a late equaliser as they claimed a 1-1 draw away at Plate Conference leaders Briton Ferry Llansawel.

The Reds took the lead after only five minutes when Jess Denscombe produced a sensational effort from 30 yards out, her first league goal since September 2024 – which also came against Aberystwyth.

However, Rhys James’ side were made to pay for a host of missed opportunities when Aber levelled through Libby Isaac with just eight minutes left on the clock.

A draw for Ferry means that Barry Town United are now only one point off top spot in the Plate Conference following their 3-0 home win over Pontypridd United.
