Genero Adran Premier round-up: Cardiff City snatch stoppage time win against title rivals Wrexham

Cardiff City closed the gap at the top of the Genero Adran Premier to just two points with a dramatic 2-1 win over leaders Wrexham at the CIS Stadium.

The Bluebirds had a number of early opportunities and took the lead after 17 minutes when Mikayla Cook’s low cross from the right was turned into the net by Wrexham defender Erin Lovett.

Wrexham levelled the scoreline on the hour mark through in-form youngster Faye Knox, who timed her run perfectly to meet Hannah Snape’s free-kick into the box and nod past Ceryn Chamberlain from close range for her seventh goal in just 11 appearances for the Red Dragons.

It had finished 1-1 in October’s reverse fixture and it looked like the points would be shared again until Cardiff found a winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Substitute Fiona Barry raced onto Nieve Jenkins’ long ball, held off Knox and slotted into the far corner to earn the Bluebirds a precious three points.

Barry Town United started the new year with a win over Pontypridd United at Jenner Park

Barry Town United climbed up to sixth in the standings with a 4-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Pontypridd United at Jenner Park.

Barry immediately took control of the contest and found the opening goal in the 25th minute as Beca Thomas fired home a loose ball for her third league goal of the season. The Linnets lost forward India Shanahan, who was forced off with injury, but that did not halt the fire power in attack as Erin Murray doubled the lead on 33 minutes.

Lucy Attwood added her name to the scoresheet with a clinical finish to make it 3-0 early in the second half, before Madison Lloyd immediately pulled a goal back for Pontypridd by netting for the fourth league game in a row.

However, Barry restored their three-goal cushion four minutes later through Ellie Gunney’s first goal since November 2024.
