Genero Adran Premier round-up | Aberystwyth Town earn vital point in top four race

Aberystwyth Town moved into the Genero Adran Premier top four with a battling 1-1 against Swansea City at Llandarcy.

The Seasiders’ starting eleven had just an average age of under 19 years old, but they produced a gutsy performance to halt the Swans’ seven-match winning streak.

The in-form Niamh Duggan opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a superb free-kick from distance which lobbed Chelsea Herbert and Aber held on to the lead until eight minutes from full-time when Swans substitute Jess Williams bundled the ball home.

Aberystwyth now sit above fifth-place The New Saints on goal difference only, ahead of their crunch meeting at Park Avenue on the final matchday of phase one.

Swansea’s slip up meant that Cardiff City extended their lead at the top of the Genero Adran Premier to eight points following their 3-1 win away at Barry Town United.

Bluebirds skipper Siobhan Walsh headed her side in front after just six minutes, while 19-year old Mikayla Cook doubled the lead with a composed finish soon after.

Barry looked to have found a route back into the game in first half stoppage time as Taite Trivett rounded Ceryn Chamberlain to score, but Cardiff hit back instantly as Emma Beynon netted her first goal for the club.

Neither side could add to the scoring in the second half, meaning the Bluebirds secured their 16th consecutive victory in all competitions.

Wrexham came from behind twice to take all three points in an entertaining 3-2 win over Pontypridd United at The Rock.

Youngster Lauren Payne scored her first goal for Pontypridd since arriving in January to give the Dragons the breakthrough after 35 minutes, but Rosie Hughes got her name on the scoresheet for the first time in 2024 as the sides went into the interval all square.

The visitors surprisingly edged back in front courtesy of Jasmine Turner’s strike midway through the second half, but Wrexham again responded by equalising through Carra Jones.

There was to be late drama as Hughes netted her second goal of the game in the 89th minute, rounding Klaudia Wojtyczka to finish into an empty net.
