Genero Adran Premier | Weekend preview

The standout fixture in the Genero Adran Premier on Sunday sees Cardiff City host Wrexham at the Cardiff City Stadium (KO 17:10), live on S4C.

The Bluebirds have been dominant all season, having only conceded four times, and they are yet to lose a league game – winning nine and drawing one. Iain Darbyshire’s side currently hold a six-point lead at the top of the table as they eye back-to-back titles.

Wrexham took another step towards confirming their place in the top four with a narrow 1-0 win over Barry Town United last weekend. That moved Steve Dale’s side, who sit third, seven points clear of fifth-place Aberystwyth Town with a game in hand.

Cardiff have won both meetings between the two sides so far this season, with a 3-0 victory in the reverse league fixture and a 3-1 triumph in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals a fortnight ago.

Second-place Swansea City sit in between the Bluebirds and Wrexham, so they will be keeping a close eye on the result in the capital.

Earlier in the day, the Swans visit bottom of the table Pontypridd United (KO 14:00). Chris Church’s side have won their last five matches in succession in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in the last four.

Pontypridd earned their first league point of the season in a 1-1 draw with Aberystwyth Town and they will hope to build on that as they look to escape the relegation zone.

Goals from Katy Hosford, Robyn Pinder and Nieve Jenkins secured a 3-1 victory for the Swans over the Dragons in the reverse fixture back in October.

The New Saints are back on the road in the Genero Adran Premier for the first time in over two months when they face Barry Town United at Jenner Park (KO 14:00).

The Saints are looking to return to winning ways following a heavy 6-0 defeat to Cardiff City last weekend – their first loss in four league matches – and consolidate their place in the top four as they currently sit four points above fifth-place Aberystwyth.

Seventh-place Barry were also on the losing side last Sunday as they were edged out 1-0 by Wrexham and they are now just five points above the relegation zone following Pontypridd’s draw.

Emily Ridge’s hat-trick and two Beth Lewis penalties gave Saints a dominant 5-0 victory when these two sides last met.

If Greg Draper’s side were to slip up against Barry, one of Aberystwyth Town or Cardiff Met could close the gap on the top half when they meet at Park Avenue (KO 14:00).

The Seasiders are winless in their last three matches in all competitions and were forced to settle for a point last time out against Pontypridd thanks to Rebecca Mathias’ late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Goalscoring has been a problem for Cardiff Met in the Genero Adran Premier of late as they have found the net just twice in their last five league matches. A narrow 1-0 win over Pontypridd 10 days ago kept their top half hopes alive, before a 3-0 defeat to Swansea City last weekend.

Both captains were on the scoresheet as Erin Murray cancelled out Amy Jenkins’ opener as the two sides shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Cyncoed back in October.
