Genero Adran Premier | Weekend preview

Genero Adran Premier leaders Cardiff City will hope to continue their dominant form when they host bottom side Pontypridd United on Sunday.

The Bluebirds marked their return to the Cardiff City Stadium in emphatic style with a 3-0 victory over Wrexham last weekend, meaning they have won their last 14 matches in all competitions and kept five consecutive clean sheets in the league.

In contrast, Pontypridd United are rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point from 11 matches this term. Defeat to Swansea City last weekend, combined with Barry Town United’s victory over The New Saints, has left the Dragons eight points adrift of safety.

Molly Kehoe starred for City in their 5-1 win over Pontypridd in October’s reverse league fixture before the Bluebirds triumphed 3-0 their Bute Energy Welsh Cup quarter-final in December.

Wrexham will confirm their place in the Genero Adran Premier top four for phase two if they avoid defeat on home turf against Aberystwyth Town.

Steve Dale’s side staged a stunning comeback to triumph 3-2 over The New Saints in midweek, moving them 10 points clear of fifth-place Aber who have four games left to play in phase one.

The Seasiders are still on a mission to achieve a top half spot themselves, as they sit four points behind fourth-place TNS but with two games in hand.

Rosie Hughes and Rebecca Pritchard got on the scoresheet as Wrexham came from behind to win 2-1 at Park Avenue earlier in the season.

Second-place Swansea City will aim to maintain the pressure on Cardiff City at the top of the table when they host The New Saints at Llandarcy.

A 2-1 victory over Pontypridd United last weekend was the Swans’ sixth consecutive win in all competitions and they have scored 29 goals in that run.

It has been a tricky week for the TNS, who fell to a 4-1 defeat to Barry Town United last Sunday before throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Wrexham on Wednesday. Greg Draper’s side will now be looking nervously of their shoulders as they attempt to secure a place in the top four for the second consecutive season.

Robyn Pinder struck a dramatic 97th-minute winner to earn Swansea a 2-1 victory against the Saints at Park Hall back in October.

Barry Town United were the standout performers last weekend with a 4-1 victory over The New Saints and they will look to build on that performance when they travel to Cyncoed Campus to take on Cardiff Met.

The sixth-place Archers have lost four of their last five league matches but still have a slim chance of securing a top half spot as they sit five points behind TNS with a game in hand.

Barry sit seventh but may fancy a remarkable resurgence themselves and three points on Sunday would see them overtake Met in the table. The Linnets have continued their impressive January business this week with the signings of ex-Archers Evie Griffiths and Grace Batsford.

Goals from Aimee Deacon, India Shanahan, Holly Jenkins and Taite Trivett gave Barry a 4-2 win over Met in October.
