Genero Adran South | 2023/24 season preview

The 2023/24 Genero Adran South begins on Sunday 3 September, with the division containing plenty of familiar names along with three promoted clubs.

Briton Ferry Llansawel won 15 of their 16 league matches last season to lift the Genero Adran South title, but were narrowly beaten by Wrexham in the promotion play-off to lose out on a place in the Genero Adran Premier.

It is a clear that promotion is the target for Rhys James’ side and with no major departures, alongside the signing of Alison Witts from Pontypridd United, the Reds will head into the season as standout favourites in the division.

Cascade were Briton Ferry’s nearest challengers last season and the only club to beat them in the Genero Adran South, so they will hope to put a dent in the Reds’ title charge once again.

Charli Carroll and Beth Lloyd have both departed for the USA, but the signings of Mali Summers and Lauren Boyd are key reinforcements. The duo won the Genero Adran South title with Abergavenny Town in 2021/22 before gaining Genero Adran Premier experience last season.

Pontardawe Town finished third in their inaugural season in the Genero Adran South and they will aim to at least match that in the new campaign.

The departure of defender Sophie Topper to Pontypridd United leaves a hole in the backline, but the attacking danger of Catryn Cook remains. The 25-year-old netted 13 league goals last season, placing her second in the division’s scoring charts.

Following a disappointing campaign in 2022/23, Caldicot Town have been busy revamping their squad throughout the summer as they aim for better fortunes this time around.

Among the club’s new signings are Jodie Butcher, a Genero Adran U19 national champion with Cardiff City last season, and Bella Wilce who made her Genero Adran Premier debut for Abergavenny Town 10 months ago.

Swansea University concluded last season with a 7-0 win over Caldicot Town and will hope that that is a sign of things to come in the new campaign as they aim to improve on a fourth-place finish.

The likes of Rachel Currie and Caitlin Meadows both have top-flight experience, while Katie Horsburgh will look to star in midfield again after top scoring with eight goals last term.

Coed Duon are the first of three new names in the Genero Adran South this season, having finished second in the SWWGL Combined division last season – losing only two league matches all year. They were also wildcards in the 2022/23 Genero Adran Trophy.

New signings Sian Rees and Ruth Stanley have both previously played in the Genero Adran Premier, while Mali Thomas will aim continue her hot streak after scoring 17 league goals last season.

Cwmbran Celtic will make their debut in the Genero Adran South following just two losses and a third-place finish in the SWWGL Combined division last season.

Attacking duo Fiona Anthony and Eloise Meaney scored 33 league goals between them last season and will hope to replicate that form in the second tier, while new signing Chelsea Cochrane midfielder has Genero Adran Premier experience with Barry Town United and Port Talbot.

Llanelli Town complete the Genero Adran South line up for the new season, also moving up from the SWWGL Combined division.

The Reds have been consistent performers in the third tier over the last two seasons, achieving back-to-back fourth place finishes and starting 2022/23 with eight consecutive wins.
