Genero Adran South round-up | Briton Ferry secure title thanks to late Cwmbran Celtic equaliser

Briton Ferry Llansawel secured the Genero Adran South title for the second consecutive season in dramatic circumstances on Sunday.

The Reds went into the weekend knowing that the trophy would be theirs if they defeated Llanelli Town and Cascade failed to win against Cwmbran Celtic.

Rhys James’ side did their job, triumphing 2-0 over Llanelli at Old Road thanks to goals from Laura-May Walkley and Lucy Powell in the space of six minutes of each other in the second half.

But it appeared that they would have to wait a little longer to confirm the title, as Lauren Boyd’s goal earned a Cascade a 1-0 lead against Cwmbran Celtic as the clock hit 90 minutes.

However, there was to be late drama in Ystrad Mynach as Jade Crofts scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to earn Celtic a point and hand Ferry the trophy.

Having won all nine of their league matches so far this season, Ferry will now have their sights set on completing a perfect campaign before seeking redemption in the promotion play-off against the Genero Adran North champions.

In the other Genero Adran South game on Sunday afternoon, Swansea University secured their first victory of 2024 by winning 2-0 over Caldicot Town.

Both goals came in the space of 13 minutes in the first half, as captain Charley Haynes broke the deadlock before Jess Goucher doubled the advantage.
