Ystradgynlais Community Centre

Ystradgynlais Community Centre – operated by Ystradgynlais AFC – applied for funding through our Fit-for-Future Facilities programme with the intentions of creating better facilities for their current players, local schools, and other members of the community.

The site in South Powys – a series of concrete tennis courts – was crying out for some much-needed refurbishment due to the surface being in disrepair and affecting football and other training sessions taking place during the winter months.

Through our Fit-for-Future Facilities programme, we have been able to award a grant of over £200,000 to the development and upgrade of the tennis courts into a small-sided 3G pitch allowing the football club to train all year round on a high-quality surface and enable the club to grow the number of junior and female teams.

The grant will have benefits to the wider community with the 3G being shared with the community’s local primary schools for PE lessons and after-school activities. The facility is also used by community groups including Young Carers and over 50s Walking Football.

“I can’t thank the Cymru Football Foundation enough for your contribution and support on this journey. This new 3G pitch is going to help so many people, groups, and organisations in the community for years to come.

The work you do for so many communities is amazing – thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
