Located in Powys, Newtown AFC applied to the Cymru Football Foundation’s Sustainability Fund to reduce the club’s running costs through upgrading their floodlights. Their halogen bulbs and outdated software meant the club were spending huge amounts on electricity each season.
Our Sustainability Fund allowed the club to receive a grant of just over £38,000 to invest in new LED bulbs and technology to allow their light system to adapt to pitch activity. With the club’s electricity costs increasing, this investment has also seen a reduction of up to 75% in power consumption and providing more long-term sustainability.
The new bulbs and lighting system has also offered opportunities to local schools in partnership with Powys County Council – allowing children pitch access to take part in physical activity into the evenings.
“The new LED floodlights lights and control system allows us to make much-needed savings with the high usage of our pitch from Huddle and Development Centre sessions to the Academy and then first team. A big thank you to the Cymru Football Foundation for their continued support with this project at Latham Park.”
