JD Cymru North round-up: Airbus seal top three spot with emphatic win

Airbus UK Broughton confirmed their spot in the JD Cymru North top three with an emphatic 8-0 win over Mold Alexandra at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Saturday.

Danny Warren put Airbus ahead with just two minutes on the clock as the forward steered the ball home from George Peers’ low cross. Warren then doubled his and Airbus’ tally with a deft lob over Henry Green before Jake Roberts headed in the rebound from Jordan Evans’ blocked effort on the stroke of half-time.

Warren completed his hat-trick three minutes after the restart when he flicked the ball into the roof of the net from Evans’ low driven free-kick. Evans then laid the ball off to Peers, who fired home from inside the area before Roberts sent a dipping strike into the top corner from distance to make it six and give the Wingmakers comfort.

Defender Josh Stevenson got in on the act by slotting a loose ball into the bottom corner after Mold failed to clear Evans’ corner. Peers rounded off a convincing display late on with his second of the evening as the forward met Kieran Evans’ cross and glanced his header beyond Green to bag his 22nd league goal of the season. Mark Allen’s side have now won their last 11 league matches and remain just two points adrift of leaders Llandudno.

Danny Warren’s hat-trick takes him to thirteen goals for the season

Flint Mountain eased their relegation fears with a crucial 2-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Ruthin Town at the Memorial Playing Fields on Friday.

Jack Burman gave Mountain the lead in the 10th minute by racing through on goal and sending a composed finish beyond Dan Goldston. Burman’s former Connah’s Quay Nomads teammate Luca Hogan doubled Mountain’s lead 10 minutes before half time with his third league goal of the season to put the visitors in the driving seat.

Llyr Morris fired home from close range to give Ruthin a lifeline with 20 minutes to play, but Mountain held on to claim their first win in over a month and move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Ruthin have lost all of their last four games in the JD Cymru North

Ruthin remain bottom of the table and are now six points adrift of safety after 15th-place Penrhyncoch earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Holyhead Hotspur at Cae Baker on Saturday.

The decisive moment arrived in the 71st minute as in-form veteran Geoff Kellaway curled his free-kick beyond Guto Hughes for his sixth goal contribution in five games. Holyhead’s hopes of a late equalised were dashed when Hughes was shown a straight red card, with the result stretching their winless run away from home to five matches.

Leaders Llandudno secured their eighth consecutive league win with a 1-0 triumph over Guilsfield at the PRS Recruitment Stadium on Saturday.

There was early drama at Clos Mytton as Llandudno forward Aidan Higgins was shown a straight red card after just six minutes. Despite Higgins’ dismissal, the Seasiders remained on the front foot and were left frustrated when Mark Cadwallader struck the crossbar and saw his close-range finish into the net disallowed for offside.

However, Cadwallader would not be denied at the third time of asking as the forward was brought down by Guilsfield goalkeeper Luke Evans inside the area, allowing him to step up

and convert from the penalty spot for his 14th league goal of the season. Jordan Hadaway’s side saw out the remainder of the match to maintain their two-point lead at the top of the table.

Holywell Town took a step closer to confirming their place in the top three with a 3-1 victory over Caersws at the Bartons North Wales Stadium on Saturday.

Holywell talisman Jamie Breese gave the home side an early lead when he unleashed a powerful strike into the far corner, leaving Max Williams no chance of the save. Ryan Edwards nearly doubled the lead just two minutes later, but his corner crashed against the post.

However, Breese grabbed his second of the match shortly before half time, and this time the woodwork was in Holywell’s favour as the forward’s effort found the net via the underside of the crossbar. Ieuan Hewitt then gave the hosts comfort in first half stoppage-time by heading home from Jack Sconce’s corner.

Tommy Rowlands gave Caersws a glimmer of hope with his goal on the hour mark, but the first half blitz from Holywell was enough to give them all three points. Johnny Haseldin’s side remain 11 points clear inside the top three, although fourth-place Newtown have two games in hand.

Denbigh Town ended their five-match losing streak with a 4-1 victory over struggling Buckley Town at The Globe on Friday night.

Both sides made a fast start in Flintshire as Denbigh captain Nathan Brown found the bottom corner with his free-kick from 20 yards out, only for his opener to be cancelled out by Connor Littler, who fired home his first league goal since December in the 16th minute.

Denbigh restored their lead 11 minutes later though, as Brown clinically found the target with another sublime free-kick for his 12th league goal of the season.

Brown turned provider as his corner was headed home by Dan Davies on the hour mark before Alfie Vaughan wrapped up a comfortable win for the visitors by rounding Seb Osment and slotting into an empty net. Denbigh strengthen their place in the top half, while the Bucks are now winless in their last 10 league matches – their worst run of results ever in the JD Cymru North.

Jamie Hyne scored both goals as Newtown claimed back-to-back away wins and clean sheets with a 2-0 victory over Brickfield Rangers at Clywedog Park on Saturday.

Hyne gave Newtown the lead four minutes before the interval as he latched onto Alfie Clark’s smart flick, found space and fired into the roof of the net.

The Robins forward made it a brace on 73 minutes by meeting Fin Starkey-Jones’ cross and finishing well into the bottom corner. Hyne had the chance to bag a hat-trick in stoppage-time, but he was unable to convert from the penalty spot.
