JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 11 April

The penultimate weekend of the regular season in the JD Cymru Leagues is upon us. Here are the key matches to look out for.

JD Cymru North – Mold Alexandra v Brickfield Rangers (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Just one point separates Mold Alexandra and Brickfield Rangers ahead of their meeting at Alyn Park, with the two sides competing for a top half spot.

Mold currently occupy eighth place in the table, following an impressive run of five wins in six games which has steered them clear of relegation danger after they won just one of their previous 11 matches. Barry Owen’s side triumphed 2-1 away at Newtown last weekend and are now targeting four consecutive league victories for the first time in 18 months.

Ninth-place Brickfield Rangers have held their own in their debut season in the second tier and head to Alyn Park following a stunning 6-0 victory away at Buckley Town on Good Friday.

Owen Cordiner struck an 86th-minute winner as Mold triumphed 1-0 in the reverse fixture between the two sides at Clywedog Park in September.

JD Cymru South – Cwmbran Celtic v Aberystwyth Town (Saturday, 2pm)

Neither Cwmbran Celtic nor Aberystwyth Town have had the season they would have envisaged nine months ago.

It has been nothing short of a disastrous campaign for Celtic, who have been relegated to the third tier and have not won any of their 28 league games so far. It is almost a year since their last competitive victory, when they defeated Llantwit Major on the final day of the 2024/25 season.

Simon Berry’s side only have two matches remaining to avoid going a whole season without a win, with Saturday’s clash with Aber preceding a final day meeting with promotion hopefuls Ammanford.

Cwmbran Celtic are aiming to avoid going a whole calendar year without a win

After relegation from the JD Cymru Premier last season, Aberystwyth would have aimed for an immediate return to the top-flight and they remained in the battle for a top three spot for much of the campaign. However, the Seasiders have picked up just four points from their last seven games to fall away from contention.

Nonetheless, victory on Saturday would see Craig Williams’ team climb to fifth in the table ahead of their final day fixture away at Ynyshir Albions.

Jonathan Evans’ brace saw Aber triumph 2-0 in the reverse fixture between the two sides at Park Avenue in September.
