Caerphilly Athletic have been promoted to the JD Cymru South after being crowned champions of the Ardal South East on Saturday.

The As completed their league campaign in April and sat top of the table, but could still be caught by teams below them with games in hand. However, a 2-2 draw for third-place Cwmbran Town away at Brecon Corries on Saturday – the Crows conceded an 85th-minute equaliser – means that the title is confirmed for Caerphilly.

It secures back-to-back promotions for Ian Butterworth’s side, who won the South Wales Premier League Premier Division in 2024/25.

Of their 30 league games this term, Caerphilly won 21, drew four and lost five. They scored a league-high 98 goals and conceded 42. Forward Iwan John has starred with 36 goals in 29 appearances.

Caerphilly will be joined in the JD Cymru South next season by Ardal South West champions Pure Swansea, while Bangor City 1876 and Llanuwchllyn have been promoted to the JD Cymru North after winning the Ardal North West and Ardal South West titles respectively.

The final two spots in next season’s second tier will be decided by the play-offs, with second-place in the Ardal North West and Ardal North East going head-to-head and likewise the two runners-up in the Ardal South West and Ardal South East.
