Bangor City 1876, Llanuwchllyn and Pure Swansea have been promoted to the JD Cymru Leagues following today’s Men’s FAW Tier 2 Club Licence decisions.
Bangor City 1876 bounce straight back to the JD Cymru North following their shock relegation on the final day of last season, with Michael Johnston overseeing an incredible season in the Ardal North West.
Bangor won the title after winning 27 of their 30 league games, losing only once, while scoring 123 goals and conceding just 25. They also reached the semi-finals of the JD Welsh Cup – becoming only the second team ever from the third tier to do so – and lifted the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy for the first time in their history.
Llanuwchllyn have finally achieved promotion to the JD Cymru North after suffering play-off heartbreak in the previous two seasons. Sion Tudor’s side claimed the Ardal North East title in mid-April and conclude their league campaign away at Knighton Town on Saturday.
Llanuwchllyn have won 23 of their 29 league games so far, netting 108 goals and conceding just 23. Striker Meilir Williams has continued his remarkable scoring form with 47 goals in 29 games, taking his league tally to 113 over the last three campaigns.
Club Licensing: FAW Men’sTier 2 decisions
Pure Swansea have won promotion to the JD Cymru South, ending a three-year stay in the third tier for the side who were previously Swansea University FC.
Jack Midwinter’s team won the Ardal South West title following a 6-0 victory over Seven Sisters Onllwyn on Tuesday night, which saw them finish the season with 23 wins from 30 games. They scored 82 goals and conceded 35.
The final automatic promotion spot is still to be decided in the Ardal South East. Current league leaders Caerphilly Athletic have completed their campaign and sit on 67 points, but could still be overtaken by third-place Cwmbran Town who have 62 points and two games still to play.
The final two spots in next season’s second tier will then be decided by the play-offs, with second-place in the Ardal North West and Ardal North East going head-to-head and likewise the two runners-up in the Ardal South West and Ardal South East.
