Look ahead to this weekend’s key fixtures, including a huge clash in the JD Cymru North title race.
JD Cymru Premier – Haverfordwest County v Pontypridd United (Friday, 8pm)
Pontypridd United got off to the perfect start in phase two of the JD Cymru Premier as they triumphed 3-0 away at Barry Town United last weekend, climbing off the bottom of the table in the process.
Another win on the road at Haverfordwest County on Friday would see them move out of the relegation zone if Aberystwyth Town drop points at home to Colwyn Bay on the same night.
Haverfordwest were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Aberystwyth last weekend, meaning they lost top spot in the Playoff Conference to Penybont. The Bluebirds will be eager to reclaim that position as they seek a return to Europe.
It finished goalless when the two sides met at Ogi Bridge Meadow in phase one, before Pontypridd stormed to a 2-0 home victory over the Bluebirds in October courtesy of goals from Joe Hunt and Jack Karadogan.
JD Cymru North – Holywell Town v Flint Town United (Saturday, 2pm)
All eyes will be on the top of the JD Cymru North table on Saturday as Flintshire rivals Holywell Town host Flint Town United at the Achieve More Stadium.
The Wellmen currently sit third in the table, one point behind the Silkmen and two behind league leaders Airbus UK Broughton. However, Johnny Haseldin’s side have one game in hand over Flint and three in hand over the Wingmakers.
Both sides have only lost one league game each this season and come into this fixture in fine form. Holywell made it seven consecutive wins with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Caersws last weekend, while Flint produced a stunning second half performance to defeat bottom side Chirk AAA 3-0.
The hosts have the best defence in the division, having only conceded 13 goals so far this term, but Flint have scored the joint-most goals (58). Elliott Reeves has been particularly prolific in the Silkmen’s attack, finding the net in his last seven matches in succession.
Nothing separated the two teams earlier in the season as Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro’s 96th-minute penalty salvaged a 1-1 draw for Flint after Jake Cooke had opened the scoring.
JD Cymru South – Llantwit Major v Abertillery Bluebirds (Saturday, 12pm)
The race for survival in the JD Cymru South continues as Llantwit Major host Abertillery Bluebirds in an early kick-off on Saturday afternoon.
Both clubs currently find themselves in the relegation zone, but the Major are just three points adrift of safety following a run of three consecutive wins in January.
It means that victory on Saturday would take them level on points with 13th-place Pontardawe Town, if Garry Taylor’s team lose against Afan Lido.
The Bluebirds are 10 points adrift of safety and have just two league win to their name this season, but one of those did come against the Major back in September as Leigh Sharp’s strike secured a 1-0 victory.
