Caernarfon Town secure European play-off final spot with two late goals against Cardiff Met

Caernarfon Town booked their spot in this season’s JD Cymru Premier European play-off final with a 2-0 win over Cardiff Met at The Oval on Friday night.

Late goals from Marc Williams and Adam Davies proved the difference for the Cofis, who are now just one game away from qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history.

It was a game of few chances, with Gruff John coming closest for the hosts in the first half as he saw his header tipped over the bar by Alex Lang, before Eliot Evans’ cross flashed across the face of goal at the other end.

After the break, Sion Bradley struck the post with a low free-kick from the edge of the box but the tie appeared destined to head to penalties.

However, with 86 minutes on the clock, Met failed to clear the ball in their box and it dropped to Williams who lashed a fierce volley past Lang to send the home crowd in raptures.

The night got even better for Caernarfon four minutes later when Bradley surged forward on the break, gliding away from several Met players, and played in Adam Davies who coolly slotted home to wrap up the victory.

The second play-off semi-final takes place between Newtown and Penybont on Saturday 11 May (KO 12:20). The winner will meet Caernarfon in the final on Saturday 18 May (KO 14:45).
