Final two JD Cymru Leagues spots up for grabs in Ardal Leagues play-offs

Promotion to the JD Cymru Leagues for 2026/27 is on the line in the Ardal Leagues play-offs at the end of May.

Four clubs have already earned promotion to the second tier courtesy of winning their respective league titles.

Ardal North East champions Llanuwchllyn and Ardal North West champions Bangor City 1876 are heading to the JD Cymru North, while Ardal South East champions Caerphilly Athletic and Ardal South West champions Pure Swansea will play in the JD Cymru South next season.

The play-off action kicks off on Tuesday 26 May as Knighton Town meet Porthmadog at Park Avenue in Aberystwyth, with the winner claiming a spot in the JD Cymru North (KO 19:30).

Knighton are looking for back-to-back promotions after winning the Central Wales League South title last year to gain promotion to tier three. While their form has dipped slightly amid a congested schedule, Harry Stokes’ side remain unbeaten in their last seven matches – winning three and drawing four.

Porthmadog are aiming to return to the JD Cymru North after two seasons in the third tier

Porthmadog have only lost to champions Bangor since the turn of the year in the Ardal North West, securing second place while scoring 91 goals across 30 league games. Port are aiming for a return to the JD Cymru North following their relegation in 2024.

Later in the week, on Friday 29 May, Pontardawe Town will meet Cwmbran Town in the Ardal South play-off at the M&P Group 3G in Tonypandy, home of Cambrian United (KO 19:30).

Pontardawe have climbed the Ardal South West table in recent weeks after winning their games in hand earned due to reaching the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy final. Christian Evans’ team have picked up 25 points from the last 27 available and conclude their league campaign against Cefn Cribwr on 26 May – meaning the play-off will be their fourth match in 10 days.

Pontardawe Town were beaten by Bangor City 1876 in the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy Final

Cwmbran Town, inaugural champions of the JD Cymru Premier in 1992, are enjoying a resurgence and are targeting back-to-back promotions after their title win in tier four last year. Dale Clark’s side almost claimed top spot in the Ardal South East, but dropped points against Brecon Corries and Abergavenny Town saw them finish one point behind champions Caerphilly Athletic.

Tickets to the play-off matches will be available to buy on the gate, costing £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
