Holywell Town confirm promotion to the JD Cymru Premier

Holywell Town have been promoted to the JD Cymru Premier after the club were successful in receiving a FAW Tier 1 licence upon appeal.

It is a return to the top-flight for the first time in 27 years for the Wellmen, who were founding members of the JD Cymru Premier in 1992.

Johnny Haseldin’s side have been challenging at the top end of the JD Cymru North for the last five campaigns, even securing the title in 2023/24 but failing to go up as they did not achieve a Tier 1 licence.

This season, while they have trailed title contenders Llandudno and Airbus UK Broughton, the Wellmen secured a spot in the top three over the Easter weekend as fourth-place Newtown slipped up against Mold Alexandra.

It follows last week’s confirmation that Airbus UK Broughton, Cambrian United, Llandudno and Trefelin have all also earned promotion as the JD Cymru Premier transitions to a 16-team format for the 2026/27 season.

14 of the 16 clubs have now been confirmed for the revamped top-flight, with Flint Town United and Bala Town battling to avoid being the second club relegated this season, and Ammanford and Caerau Ely competing for the final promotion spot from the JD Cymru South.
