JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 25-27 October

A full JD Cymru Leagues schedule returns this weekend following last weekend’s JD Welsh Cup action. Here are the key games to watch.

JD Cymru Premier – Haverfordwest County v Caernarfon Town (Saturday, 5:15pm)

Haverfordwest County will aim to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches in the JD Cymru Premier when they host Caernarfon Town at the LHP Stadium on Saturday evening, live on Sgorio.

The Bluebirds are currently second in the table and closed the gap on leaders Penybont to five points with a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Briton Ferry Llansawel in their last outing. Tony Pennock’s side have the best defence in the division so far this season, conceding only five goals in 13 matches.

Haverfordwest narrowly avoided an upset in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend as they defeated Trethomas Bluebirds on penalties, but the same could not be said for Caernarfon who were knocked out on spot-kicks away at third tier Holyhead Hotspur.

The Cofis were in red-hot form a couple of weeks ago with four consecutive wins to their name, including a 2-1 victory away at reigning champions The New Saints, but have now lost three on the bounce after league defeats to Newtown and Aberystwyth Town in addition to their cup exit.

Owain Jones’ stoppage time goal clinched a 2-1 win for Haverfordwest in this season’s reverse fixture at The Oval in August.

JD Cymru North – Airbus UK Broughton v Holywell Town (Friday, 7:45pm)

There is a Flintshire derby at the top of the JD Cymru North on Friday night as league leaders Airbus UK Broughton host third-place Holywell Town.

The Wingmakers have won 10 of their 11 league matches so far this season – losing only to Colwyn Bay at the end of last month – and have scored 40 goals already in the process. Mark Allen’s side were 3-0 winners in another derby against Mold Alexandra in their last league outing before victory over Porthmadog in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend. Their last home defeat in the league came in April 2023.

Holywell find themselves in unfamiliar territory having lost four out of their last five matches in all competitions for the first time in over three years. A 2-1 loss at home to Flint Mountain in their last league game was followed by a penalty shootout defeat to Ruthin Town in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend.

George Peers salvaged a point with his late equaliser for Airbus in a 1-1 draw in the first meeting between the two sides last season, before the Wingmakers picked up a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture thanks to Jordan Evans’ brace.

JD Cymru South – Baglan Dragons v Pontypridd United (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Baglan Dragons host Pontypridd United on Saturday afternoon with both sides currently on three-match winning streaks in the JD Cymru South.

Baglan climbed into the top half of the table with a 3-1 victory over Taffs Well last weekend, following comfortable wins against Afan Lido and Cambrian United, and they are now just four points off top spot.

Pontypridd are currently third in the table and just a point behind leaders Trethomas Bluebirds following consecutive clean sheet victories over Newport City, Penrhiwceiber Rangers and Cwmbran Celtic.

However, Gavin Allen’s side are hoping to return to winning ways after a shock 2-0 loss to fourth tier outfit Penydarren in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend.
