JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 27-28 September

After a set of midweek fixtures in the top-flight, it’s a quick turnaround as a full schedule across the JD Cymru Leagues returns this weekend. Here are the key games to watch.

JD Cymru Premier – Briton Ferry Llansawel v Bala Town (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Briton Ferry Llansawel and Bala Town meet at Old Road on Saturday after both sides claimed monumental victories on Tuesday night.

Ferry earned their first win in the JD Cymru Premier to move off the bottom of the table as Tom Walters’ stunning strike proved decisive in a 1-0 triumph away at previously unbeaten league leaders Penybont.

The evening was also special for Bala as stoppage time goals from Alex Downes and Hussein Mehasseb saw the Lakesiders go from 2-1 down to 3-2 winners away at reigning champions The New Saints.

Downes was also on the scoresheet – twice – when Bala triumphed 2-0 over Ferry at Maes Tegid earlier this season.

JD Cymru North – Colwyn Bay v Airbus UK Broughton (Friday, 7:45pm)

It is third versus first in the JD Cymru North on Friday night as Colwyn Bay host Airbus UK Broughton.

The Wingmakers have made a dream start to the season, winning all eight of their league matches so far to sit six points clear at the top of the table. Mark Allen’s side were only narrowly beaten 1-0 by TNS in their most recent outing in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

However, this week may be their toughest test yet in the JD Cymru North as Colwyn Bay also find themselves in a rich vein of form. The Seagulls have won their last four league games and are unbeaten since their opening day defeat to Bangor 1876.

Airbus did the double over Bay when the two clubs were last in the JD Cymru North together in 2021/22, but the Seagulls were 5-0 winners when they met in last season’s Nathaniel MG Cup.

JD Cymru South – Baglan Dragons v Penrhiwceiber Rangers (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Penrhiwceiber Rangers could climb out of the JD Cymru South relegation zone on Saturday with victory away at Baglan Dragons, who may drop into the bottom three with defeat.

After a difficult start to the season, bottom-of-the-table Rangers have recorded back-to-back wins in recent weeks, getting their first JD Cymru South victory against Afan Lido a fortnight ago before a 3-1 triumph over Cwmbran Town in the JD Welsh Cup last Saturday.

11th-place Baglan claimed a thrilling 4-3 win over Cwmbran Celtic in their last league outing, but will be aiming to bounce back from a shock 5-1 defeat to third tier Swansea University in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend.

This will be the third meeting between the two sides already this season, following a goalless draw on the opening weekend of the league season and a 4-3 comeback win for Penrhiwceiber in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup – courtesy of two stoppage time goals.
