JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 30-31 August

With second tier sides in cup action this weekend, the only league fixtures come in the JD Cymru Premier. Here are some of the key match ups to watch.

JD Cymru Premier – Bala Town v Penybont (Saturday, 2:30pm)

League leaders Penybont visit Bala Town on Saturday afternoon, with both sides hoping to maintain their unbeaten starts to the season.

Bont climbed to the top of the table on goal difference following their emphatic 5-1 win over Aberystwyth Town on Monday, which followed back-to-back goalless draws against Newtown and Haverfordwest County.

Bala currently sit third in the table, but are on the same points tally as Penybont (eight) after two wins and two draws from their opening four matches.

Colin Caton’s side kept their third consecutive clean sheet in a 0-0 stalemate away at Caernarfon Town on Monday after a 2-0 victory over Flint Town United three days earlier.

Bala are unbeaten in their last five JD Cymru Premier matches against Penybont, including 2-1 and 2-0 wins in phase one last season.

JD Cymru Premier – Caernarfon Town v Cardiff Met (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Cardiff Met are another side who sit on eight points from four games but they now have a run of three consecutive away matches – starting with a trip to Caernarfon Town on Saturday.

The Archers, who are the top scorers in the JD Cymru Premier so far this season, have earned away wins over newly-promoted Flint Town United and Briton Ferry Llansawel, but have been held to draws at home by Barry Town United and Haverfordwest County.

It has been a mixed start to the league campaign for Caernarfon following their European exploits, with the Cofis recording one win, one draw and one defeat from three matches.

Richard Davies’ side are still looking for their first home win of the season following a 2-1 defeat to Haverfordwest County and a 0-0 draw against Bala Town at The Oval so far.

The Cofis have won nine of their last 12 matches against Met, with the most recent meeting between the two sides coming in May’s European play-off semi-final when late goals from Marc Williams and Adam Davies gave Caernarfon a 2-0 victory.
