An action-packed Saturday afternoon awaits in the JD Cymru Leagues. Here are the key games to watch.
JD Cymru Premier – Newtown v Connah’s Quay Nomads (Saturday, 2:30pm)
The only match in the JD Cymru Premier this weekend sees Newtown host Connah’s Quay Nomads at Latham Park after the fixture was postponed last Friday.
Callum McKenzie was confirmed as the new permanent Robins manager last week, with his only game as interim boss finishing in a 3-1 defeat to Aberystwyth Town three weeks ago. Newtown have won just one of their last nine league games, leaving them ninth in the table and five points adrift of a top half spot.
The Nomads currently sit in eighth place – above Newtown on goal difference only. Billy Paynter’s side suffered a 3-2 defeat away to Barry Town United in their last league outing, but bounced back with a 2-1 victory away at Trefelin in the JD Welsh Cup – their first victory on the road since August.
Rhys Hughes opened the scoring for the Nomads in September’s reverse fixture, but his goal was cancelled out by Aaron Williams’ header as the two sides shared the points in a 1-1 draw.
JD Cymru North – Buckley Town v Bangor 1876 (Saturday, 2pm)
It is fourth versus fifth in the JD Cymru North on Saturday afternoon as Buckley Town host Bangor 1876 at The Globe.
It has been an impressive campaign for the Bucks so far, as they have 15 more points to their name than they did at this stage last season. Asa Hamilton’s side have won their last three league games and another victory on Saturday would be the first time the club have recorded four straight league wins since August 2022.
Bangor come into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw with Holywell Town last weekend, in which they led 2-0 but conceded twice to take only a point. Mike Johnston’s side have won just one of their last six league games and haven’t triumphed away from home since August.
Bangor talisman Corrig McGonigle scored in both league meetings against Buckley last season to help his team secure 3-0 and 3-2 victories.
JD Cymru South – Taffs Well v Ammanford (Saturday, 2pm)
Taffs Well will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start under new manager Josh Anderson when they host Ammanford on Saturday.
Anderson has overseen draws against Goytre United and Newport City either side of a 3-0 win over Llantwit Major so far, with the Wellmen scoring as many goals in his first three matches as they did in the previous 11 combined. They remain in the relegation zone, but victory could see them move out of the bottom three depending on other results.
It has been an inconsistent season so far for Ammanford who find themselves in 11th place – five points above the relegation zone – but earned an impressive 1-0 win away at Trefelin last weekend thanks to a delightful, chipped goal from Lewis Reed.
Second half goals from Callum Thomas, Rhys Davies and Harrison Lewis secured a 3-0 win for Ammanford in September’s reverse fixture at The Rec.
