JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 30-31 January

There may not be any top-flight action in the JD Cymru Leagues this weekend, but there are some big encounters to look forward to in the second tier.

JD Cymru North – Airbus UK Broughton v Penrhyncoch (Saturday, 1pm)

Airbus UK Broughton will aim to hold on to top spot in the JD Cymru North as they host Penrhyncoch at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Saturday.

With Llandudno’s fixture postponed last weekend, Airbus took advantage to leapfrog the Seasiders and go a point clear at the top of the table with a 2-1 comeback win over Gresford Athletic – although Dudno do now have two games in hand. The Wingmakers have won their last five matches in all competitions and have only lost once at home in the JD Cymru North this season.

Airbus UK Broughton moved top of the JD Cymru North table last weekend

Following a tricky start to the campaign, Penrhyncoch have now lost just one of their last six games to boost their survival hopes. A 1-0 home win over Brickfield Rangers last weekend saw the Roosters climb out of the relegation zone, but they head to Flintshire in search of only a second away league victory this term.

Airbus were 1-0 winners in August’s reverse fixture between the two sides, with Jordan Evans’ powerful strike in the first half proving decisive. It was a third consecutive victory for the Wingmakers over the Roosters.

JD Cymru South – Trefelin v Cambrian United (Friday, 7:30pm)

A huge clash awaits in the JD Cymru South title race as second-place Trefelin host leaders Cambrian United at Ynys Park on Friday night.

Trefelin currently sit five points behind their Rhondda opponents, but have two games in hand. Andy Hill’s side claimed their ninth consecutive league win with a statement 4-0 victory away at fellow promotion hopefuls Ammanford last weekend, while they have not lost in the division since August.

Trefelin were 2-0 winners away at Cambrian United earlier in the season

Cambrian are also in magnificent form, securing their sixth straight league win with a 2-0 triumph over Newport City last weekend. Their last defeat in the JD Cymru South came at home against Trefelin in October, when Jasper Jones and Tyler Brock found the net in a 2-0 victory for Andy Hill’s men – Tref’s fourth consecutive win against Cambrian.

An intriguing battle is certainly in store at Ynys Park, with Trefelin possessing the best defence in the JD Cymru South this season (10 goals conceded in 18 games) and Cambrian owning the most potent attack (49 goals scored in 20 games).
