JD Cymru Leagues round-up | Colwyn Bay win to move out of relegation zone

Colwyn Bay achieved back-to-back wins and moved out of the JD Cymru Premier relegation zone by defeating Penybont 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Bont took the lead in first half stoppage time as Keyon Reffell finished from close range, but Seagulls substitute Matty Hill equalised on 68 minutes when he latched on to Jamie Cummings’ superb through ball and produced a composed finish past Alex Pennock.

Eight minutes later, Udi Akpan scored what proved to be the winner as he smashed the ball home from inside the box.

In the JD Cymru North, Caersws climbed to sixth in the table with a 3-1 away win at Gresford Athletic on Saturday.

Craig Williams’ first league goal for the Bluebirds broke the deadlock after 10 minutes, but Toby Gallagher-Keenan equalised just before the half hour mark.

Harry Cottam restored Caersws’ lead on 39 minutes, while goalkeeper Steffan Jones saved Haci Ozlu’s penalty to keep the visitors ahead at the break. Sam Phillips added a third Bluebirds goal in the 64th minute.

Baglan Dragons ended their three-match losing streak in the JD Cymru South with a 4-1 home win over Trefelin on Saturday.

It was the visitors who took the lead after just 13 minutes through Jordan Davies’ first goal in almost a year, but Lewis Holmes and Jack Fleming turned the game around for the Dragons before the break before Jay Thomas and Tom Davies also found the net in the second half.

Taffs Well earned a fourth consecutive JD Cymru South win by triumphing 3-1 away at Llantwit Major on Saturday.

Josh Pope, captain Vaughn Fowler and substitute Cam Gauchi all netted for the Wellmen before Llantwit substitute Charlie Hansen Taylor scored a stoppage-time consolation.
