JD Cymru Leagues round-up: Late goals see Connah’s Quay Nomads confirm top half spot

Connah’s Quay Nomads confirmed their place in the JD Cymru Premier top half with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel at the Essity Stadium on Sunday.

Ferry found the breakthrough in the 34th minute as a long ball from goalkeeper Will Fuller was neatly controlled by Tom Walters, who clinically slotted home. However, the Nomads were level five minutes later as Harry Franklin raced onto Rhys Hughes’ defence-splitting pass and smartly lifted the ball over Fuller.

Callum West put the hosts ahead for the first time when his effort from outside the box deflected into the bottom corner in the opening minute of the second half, but the contest was all square once again on 54 minutes as Ollie Anderson tapped home Walters’ cross to net for the second consecutive game.

The Nomads made four substitutions at once, and those changes paid off as Max Woodcock, who had only been on the pitch for 12 minutes, fired home from Franklin’s low cross – his first league goal since September – to restore the advantage in the 83rd minute.

In-form Harry Franklin has now scored 10 goals in his last nine league appearances

Ferry were reduced to 10 men five minutes later as Tom Price was shown a second a yellow card, before Franklin sealed victory for the Nomads in stoppage time by providing the finishing touch to West’s delivery into the box for his 10th goal in his last nine league games.

John Disney’s side are now 10 points behind league leaders The New Saints, with a game in hand, while Ferry slip into the relegation zone on goal difference.

Haverfordwest County scored two late goals to salvage a 2-2 draw away at Flint Town United on Saturday afternoon.

Flint led at half-time thanks to Elliott Reeves’ 11th league goal of the season as the forward latched onto Jake Canavan’s delightful, lofted pass and sent a deft lob over Luc Rees.

The Silkmen doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark when Ricky Watts’ challenge on Jake Phillips inside the box allowed Josh Jones to convert from the penalty spot.

Ben Ahmun scored an 85th minute equaliser for Haverfordwest County against Flint Town United

It looked like Flint would be heading for a first league win in over two months, but Haverfordwest pulled a goal back on 84 minutes when Flint defender Ben Woollam turned Dan Hawkins’ low driven effort into his own net. Ben Ahmun then met Hawkins’ clipped ball and headed home into the bottom corner just a minute later to complete a quickfire comeback.

The Bluebirds are now up to eighth in the table but still only two points above the relegation zone, while Flint are out of the bottom two on goal difference only.

In the JD Cymru North, Llandudno extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points after coming from behind to win 2-1 over Mold Alexandra at Alyn Park on Saturday.

Mold took the lead in the 63rd minute when Eddie Servuts received Henry Nash’s through ball and calmly slotted past Michael Jones.

However, Llandudno completed a quickfire turnaround just over 10 minutes later as Dylan Proctor and Adam Stephens, who both scored the in the 2-1 win over Mold just four days prior, found the net again, this time within a minute of each other.
