JD Cymru Leagues transfer latest: Newport County, Swansea City & Wrexham starlets arrive

Ahead of this weekend’s opening games in the top-flight and the second round of fixtures in the second tier, keep up to date with the latest transfer news across the JD Cymru Leagues.

JD Cymru Premier

Caernarfon Town have re-signed Josh Lock and Sion Bradley from The New Saints, with the pair joining on a loan deal until the end of the campaign. Lock spent the second half of last season at The Oval, registering three and one assist in seven matches. Bradley makes return to the Gwynedd outfit after a season spent at Park Hall, where he won the domestic treble, getting 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

Bala Town have moved to sign Reagan Nicholas following his departure from Wrexham this summer. The 18-year-old went straight in to the matchday squad for their Nathaniel MG Cup tie against Guilsfield, taking his place among the substitutes and now he awaits his competitive debut. Nicholas spent 10 years at Wrexham, having joined from Connah’s Quay Nomads when he was with their under-9s. Bala have also signed Louis Hall from Rushall Olympic, and this will be Hall’s second time in Wales after a stint with Newport County.

Nicholas isn’t the only Wrexham academy player to find a home in the JD Cymru Premier following their departure from the Racecourse Ground. The New Saints have signed goalkeeper Bryn Owen, who has penned a one-year contract at Park Hall, returning to the club he spent two years of his career at prior to his move to the Red Dragons.

Connah’s Quay have signed their second player on loan from Swansea City this summer with the Nomads confirming on Friday that Jacob Cook would be playing at the Essity Stadium for the 2025/26 season. Earlier this year, Cook signed his first professional contract and was crowned the Swans’ U21’s Player of the Season.

Sam Seager, who left Swansea this summer has found a new home with Cardiff Met, whilst the Archers have also signed Riley Lonergan from Newport County with the latter joining on loan. Met signed Dan John following his departure from Haverfordwest County, but he will spend the first half of the season at Ammanford in the JD Cymru South after loaning him out.

Colwyn Bay have made a statement signing with Jordan Davies returning to Wales following a year with Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship. The 29-year-old, who won the JD Welsh Cup while a teammate of Bay boss Michael Wilde at Connah’s Quay Nomads, and also had spells with Prestatyn Town and Haverfordwest County in the top tier, played 46 times for Greenock where he was involved in four goals. The Seagulls have also signed goalkeeper Sebastian Osment who joins from Aberystwyth Town.

Barry Town United have recruited Dan Barton following his departure from Newport County, along with Dan Smith who last featured for Litchfield. Barton had a spell with Cardiff Met in the JD Cymru Premier prior to his arrival at Jenner Park.

Harri John has moved on from Haverfordwest County and signed for Cardiff Met

Harri John has swapped West Wales for Cyncoed Campus as he’s joined Cardiff Met from Haverfordwest County. The teenager can boast 62 top-flight appearances, and has played in UEFA Conference League qualifying. John has already made an impression by supplying Lewis Rees for a goal in their 4-0 win over Pontypridd United in the Nathaniel MG Cup. His twin brother Dan has also completed a move to the Archers.

The link between Swansea City and Briton Ferry Llansawel continues as teenage centre-back Jack Fanning has joined the Reds on loan. Fanning put pen-to-paper on his first professional contract with Swansea earlier this summer and will now get a taste for senior football.

Transfer tracker – 2025/26

JD Cymru North

Aidan Higgins has joined Denbigh Town following his departure from Swansea City’s academy. Higgins is an attacking midfielder and has two Cymru under-16 appearances to his name. The 18-year-old came on as a substitute in Denbigh’s penalty shootout win over Rhyl 1879 in the Nathaniel MG Cup last weekend.

Two goalkeepers have left Llandudno with Mike Jones heading to Newtown to provide Dave Jones with some competition, while Cameron Darling has signed terms with Denbigh Town. Denbigh have also signed Brad Barnes on loan from Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The New Saints legend Greg Draper is back in senior football after retiring from playing at a senior level in 2022. The 35-year-old, who is also the former manager of TNS Women in the Genero Adran Premier, has joined Newtown.

JD Cymru South

Pontypridd United have continued to add to their squad with the arrivals of goalkeeper Lewis Mouland and Eli Phipps. Mouland was last at National League side Woking, while Phipps has made a return to football following a knee injury. Phipps scored 13 goals in 23 games for Llanelli Town in the 2022/23 JD Cymru South, and will be keen to rediscover his form at USW Sports Park.

Jon Hood has reunited with his former manager at Trethomas Bluebirds

After leaving Haverfordwest County, Owain Davies has made the short move to Carmarthenshire and penned terms with Ammanford. The left-back is still awaiting his debut but was among the substitutes for the opening day win over Cardiff Draconians.

Jon Hood has linked up with Paul Evans again, helping front up a new look Trethomas Bluebirds side. The former Barry Town United hero was with Afan Lido last season, and notched seven goals and one assist in all competitions. Other arrivals for the Bluebirds include Suleimane Susso, Norton Ferreira and John Clarke from Canton, as well as Joshua Williams and Elliot Jones from Newport City, along with Cwmbran Celtic’s Dylan Dunham and Cefn Cribwr’s Ben Keen.
