JD Cymru North round-up: Warren hat-trick inspires win for leaders Airbus UK Broughton

Danny Warren scored a hat-trick as Airbus UK Broughton maintained top spot in the JD Cymru North with a 4-0 victory over Penrhyncoch at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Saturday.

Warren scored twice in the first half to put Airbus in firm control, as the striker controlled Kaiden Cooke’s pass and fired into the bottom corner before he headed in from George Peers’ cross.

Jordan Evans added a third goal for the Wingmakers just six minutes into the second half as he launched a swift counter-attack and made the decision to go alone, which paid off as he guided the ball into the bottom corner.

Warren then completed his hat-trick and put the game to bed on 64 minutes as he finished at the second time of asking after seeing Leigh Jenkins save his initial effort. Airbus debutant Jake Roberts thought he had made it five by tapping in from Peers’ cross at the back post, but the flag was raised for offside.

The Wingmakers remain one point clear of second-place Llandudno, who returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win away at Holyhead Hotspur on Saturday.

Llandudno took just six minutes to take the lead as Aidan Higgins scored from Iwan Cartwright’s cross to bag his fifth league goal of the season. The Seasiders found a second goal in first half stoppage time as Nick Grogan marked his debut for the club with a superb strike from distance.

An own goal from Anthony Stephens seven minutes into the second half gave Holyhead a lifeline, but Llandudno were able to see out the remainder of the match to claim all three points. Jordan Hadaway’s side still have two games in hand over Airbus.

Gresford Athletic moved three points clear of the relegation zone with a thrilling 3-2 victory over third-place Holywell Town at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Friday.

The Colliers took the lead 10 minutes before half-time as Elliott Orton bagged his first goal since March with a low drive into the bottom corner. Jamie Breese’s clinical finish from close range brought Holywell level two minutes into the second half, but the hosts restored their advantage in the 65th minute as Tom Smith tapped home from Sam Baker’s low cross.

Smith found the net again just eight minutes later before Mark Winslade slotted past Lewis Dutton to immediately half the deficit. However, Gresford held on to claim all three points and strengthen their survival bid.
