JD Cymru North round-up | Airbus hit seven to maintain pressure on Colwyn Bay

Colwyn Bay continue to lead the JD Cymru North with two games remaining following a 1-0 home win over Denbigh Town on Friday night.

The decisive moment at the Four Crosses Construction Arena came just after the half hour mark when Lewis Sirrell’s long pass found Ethan Roberts down the left and he cut the ball back for Dan Atkins to score his fourth goal in three matches.

The Seagulls remain four points ahead of second-place Airbus UK Broughton, who have a game in hand and thrashed Ruthin Town 7-0 on Friday.

It was goalless until the 35th minute when Kaiden Cooke struck a remarkable effort from the byline which found the top corner, while George Peers doubled the lead three minutes later as he received Danny Warren’s ball over the top before rounding Ruthin goalkeeper Dan Goldston.

Peers would complete his hat-trick – his third of the season – with two goals in as many minutes just before the hour mark. After his effort from the edge of the box went in off the post, he tapped in Warren’s cross at the back post.

The roles were reversed two minutes later as Peers set up Warren to slot in, before Warren was the provider again in the 75th minute as he played in Kaiden Cooke to finish past Goldston. Warren completed the scoring with his second of the night four minutes later, as he received Tyler McManus’ through ball and fired into the bottom corner.

Ruthin’s defeat means that they remain in the relegation zone and three points adrift of safety, but they maintain hope of staying up after 13th-place Bangor 1876 were beaten 6-1 away at Mold Alexandra on Saturday – their sixth consecutive defeat.

Remarkably, five of Mold’s goals came in a blistering 16-minute spell in the first half. After Fabrizio Murtas had opened the scoring with a strike from the edge of the box on the half hour mark, Cynan Edwards scored his first two goals for the club with a pair of close-range finishes.

Owen Cordiner added his name to the scoresheet soon after as he headed home from Josh Watkins’ cross, before the forward scored from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time after he had been fouled in the box.

Emmanuel Lawal got Mold’s sixth of the afternoon early in the second half when he turned in Cordiner’s cross, while Dion Jones – one of three players brought on by Bangor at half-time – grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors as he headed home.

Bangor host Caersws next weekend, with the Bluebirds needing just a point to confirm their own survival despite a 3-1 defeat away at Gresford Athletic on Saturday.

The Colliers opened the scoring just after the half hour mark when Charlie Mann’s cross was turned into his own net by Caersws midfielder Dillon Browne.

Haci Ozlu doubled the lead two minutes into the second half with a neat finish from the left hand side, while Joe Ormrod’s strike from distance made it 3-0 in the 71st minute. There was a late consolation for Caersws as Rhys Hesden lobbed Gresford goalkeeper Lewis Dutton, but the Colliers saw out the final stages for their first win in three matches.

Guilsfield’s impressive recent form continued as they won 2-1 against third-place Holywell Town at Clos Mytton on Saturday.

Gavin Allen’s side opened the scoring after just 11 minutes as Joe Haycock fired into the top corner, while Iwan Matthews doubled the advantage early in the second half. Holywell pulled a goal back in the 75th minute as Jake Cooke headed home from Ilan ap Gareth’s free-kick, but the visitors could not find a late equaliser.

Flint Mountain halted their three-match losing streak in emphatic style as they won 5-1 against Penrhyncoch at the Essity Stadium on Saturday.

Aaron Simpson broke the deadlock for the hosts by poking home from close range on 34 minutes, while Kieran Ball doubled the lead eight minutes later as he rounded Penrhyncoch goalkeeper Leigh Jenkins to score his first Mountain goal.

Mike Hayes added his name to the scoresheet nine minutes into the second half by stealing the ball off a defender and firing home, before Jack Parry’s half volley made it 4-0 in the 73rd minute. An own goal from Dylan Owens spoilt Mountain’s clean sheet, but Sam Rockall’s close-range finish completed the scoring for Aden Shannon’s side late on.

Llandudno’s four-match winning run was ended by Buckley Town, who triumphed 3-2 at the Go Goodwins Stadium on Saturday.

Mark Cadwallader got on the end of Ben Maher’s free-kick to put Llandudno ahead after nine minutes, but Adam Smith’s superb strike from distance levelled the contest in the 34th minute before Connor Littler completed the turnaround early in the second half by poking home after pinball in the box.

A stunning solo effort from Max Moore extended the Bucks’ advantage with 11 minutes remaining, while a stoppage time goal from Llandudno captain Anthony Stephens was not enough to save the hosts.

Llay Miners Welfare earned only their third league win of the season as they triumphed 3-2 at home over Prestatyn Town on Saturday.

Both sides are already relegated, but it was an entertaining affair at The Ring with four goals in the opening 24 minutes.

Jonathan Collo capitalised on a Prestatyn defensive mix up to put Llay ahead in the 11th minute, but Macauley Taylor flicked home Rob Hughes’ free-kick before Hughes scored direct from a corner to turn the game around in the space of five minutes. A frantic spell was complete soon after as Collo netted his second of the game to equalise.

The match settled down but Llay’s winner arrived with eight minutes remaining, as Harvey Ellis set up teenager Harry Cartwright to score his first goal for the club.
