JD Cymru North round-up | Airbus leave it late to maintain top spot

Airbus UK Broughton maintained their 100% record in the JD Cymru North this season in dramatic style as a stoppage time penalty from George Peers saw them snatch a 2-1 victory at Guilsfield on Saturday afternoon.

James Davies fired the Wingmakers ahead with 59 minutes on the clock, but they were pegged back as Guilsfield substitute Jake Cook levelled the contest just four minutes after coming off the bench.

Just when it seemed both sides would share the points, Jack Richards fouled Jordan Evans in the box in the 92nd minute which earned the Guils defender a red card and a penalty for the visitors. Peers held his nerve to dispatch the spot kick to earn Airbus a third consecutive win which keeps them at the top of the table.

The only other team to win all of their first three matches of the season are Caersws, who triumphed 2-1 on home turf against Ruthin Town on Saturday.

Bluebirds summer signing Josh Astley opened the scoring after 14 minutes and they were 2-0 up by the half hour mark as Sam Phillips bagged his first goal of the season.

Ruthin swiftly halved the deficit through Jake Hampson’s penalty, but Caersws were able to hold on to go second in the table.

Prestatyn Town secured their first win of the season by stunning Bangor 1876 with an emphatic 4-1 win at Bastion Gardens on Friday.

The Seasiders went ahead after just five minutes as a defensive mistake allowed Luke Wiltshire to slot home. Bangor equalised through Tom Mahoney in the 20th minute, but a penalty from Zebb Edwards restored Prestatyn’s lead by half-time.

Bangor goalkeeper Carl Jones was sent off 11 minutes into the second half following a dangerous challenge on Wiltshire in the box, with the Prestatyn midfielder requiring lengthy treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off. Edwards eventually stepped up to take the resulting penalty but Bangor’s substitute goalkeeper Bradley Farrar, who was making his debut, denied him.

There was more penalty drama as a foul on Harry Galeotti meant Bangor were awarded a spot kick in the 76thminute, but Liam Morris smashed against the crossbar from 12 yards. Prestatyn took full advantage as late goals from Alfie Vaughan and Ollie Buckley secured all three points.

Reigning champions Holywell Town were stunned away at Buckley Town as they were defeated 2-0 at The Globe on Saturday afternoon.

Buckley took the lead inside the first minute as Brad Knight headed home from Max Moore’s cross, while former Bucks forward Jake Roberts thought he equalised for Holywell on the stroke of half-time, but a foul in the build-up meant the goal was disallowed.

Knight grabbed his second goal of the match just before the hour mark as a goalkeeping error from Ryan Woods allowed the striker to net and secure a memorable win for his side.

Seydou Bamba’s dramatic stoppage time winner saw Mold Alexandra come from behind to earn a 2-1 victory over Denbigh Town at Alyn Park.

Owen Davies put Denbigh five minutes before half-time with his powerful strike into the bottom corner, but Mold found an equaliser midway through the second half as Owen Cordiner bundled the ball home.

Cordiner’s goal sparked the home side into life and they completed the turnaround in the third minute of stoppage time when Bamba latched onto a loose ball and finished from close range to give Mold all three points and back-to-back home wins.

Llandudno claimed their third consecutive home win in all competitions as they triumphed 3-0 against Penrhyncoch at the Go Goodwins Stadium on Friday night.

Somalia international Ahmed Ali marked his JD Cymru North debut with a goal on 33 minutes, while Harvey Bennett doubled the lead two minutes into the second half with a superb strike.

The contest was wrapped up just before the hour mark as Mark Cadwallader continued his fine form with his third goal in four matches.

Craig Lindfield cancelled out Jay Owen’s own goal as the points were shared between Colwyn Bay and Llay Miners Welfare in a 1-1 draw on Friday.

Owen’s own goal put Llay ahead five minutes before half-time, but Bay found their leveller just before the hour mark as Gwion Dafydd’s ball across the face of goal was turned home from close range from Lindfield, who scored his first goal for the Seagulls after returning to the club in the summer.

Ben Lawrence grabbed the decisive goal as newly-promoted Flint Mountain defeated Gresford Athletic 1-0 for their second league win of the campaign on Friday.

Mountain had efforts denied by the woodwork and cleared off the line, but eventually Aden Shannon’s side found the breakthrough as Lawrence’s stunning shot from the edge of the area flew into the top corner with 20 minutes remaining.
